i think all new regulations are great. all you need to do is look at the old days when we had rapes, robbries, and murder, they past laws locked up all the bad people. now you can go any where in the u.s.a. that you want with out any worry of any harm coming to you. you can also write in your little book that you dont have cancer, and you dont have cancer. so quit complaining and let the great thinging politicians take care of us.

ok here is my 2 cents- i hate EOBRs ! i know for a fact thet i lost 20 percent of my income when going from paper to theses control freak machines. (for those that dont understand percentages roughly $200 a week) All because the planners could not understand how to do their job - for lack of training or never having drove for a living before- now some planners were good and my wheels kept rolling but if your 2 hours from drop and hook and you dont have preplan for afterwards then you sit with your clock ticking with your plan of getting something to eat and a shower soon -thats not going to happen- ok back to the plan of everyone going to these machines just got backed up by the government to MAYBE starting in 2017 after congress oks them to spend 2 BILLION $$$ of taxpayers money to make it mandatory on all commercial vehicles, but they can not justifiy spending this amount of money that not do anything beneficial like increase highway safety because this is what they are claiming it will do with no proof- ok lets go back to my analysis if you have 5 driver on elogs and they all loose 20% productivity the company will need to hire another driver to pickup the 100%- so instead of having 5 driver making $1000 each ($5000)they have 6 drivers $800 each ($4800)-so therefore they get praised for creating jobs and quietly not mentioning savings $200 per week- (MR OBAMAS plan to create jobs - which you will make less money but your neighbor gets a job - again this is just my opinion- dont hate me for pointing out that we are all getting screwed one way or another by our employer and government and possibly your wife by your neighbor -so get him that job

EOBR'S are just a way for the major carriers to cheat for you, when they want. Trust me, i know, i was leased onto one with a EOBR. The company cheated for me all the time, when it was for there bottomline. If you think that EOBR's are for saftey, your wrong, period! They are a harrasment tool. I get more rest without one now. Explain to me why most trucks i see crashed, have a EOBR? Must not be working that great. Plus, i have better things to spend money on then a Qualcomm and a monthly fee.

I agree with you, on paper they look great, garunteed rest time but the reality is you're trying to sleep when you're not tired, you have to drive when you are, you sometimes miss getting home at weekends just to keep the elog right

What I don't understand is why it matters. If a driver has sat enough for 2 restarts in one week, how could that driver have run hard enough to get unduly fatigued? And, about the optional reset, my QC elog doesn't seem to have that option--a 34 hr break is an automatic reset.

You didn't loose money because of the elogs you just stated that. You lost because of load planners NOT doing their job. That's the problem and until THEY are forced, because of all of us using elogs, just like shippers and receivers nothing will get changed! People keep over looking that part.

IF you set 34 hours the reset kicks in. The choice is you don't have to sit 34 hours if you have recap hours.

Gotta chime in on this. You are exactly right. Although e-logs have some problems, they are the way of the future. I ran 8 years of renegade trucking, going through loose leaf logbooks like toilet paper. I was over weight and developed type 2 diabetes. I also made close to 60k a year. I spent the last 2 years of my OTR days with 2 compliant companies. The first was still paper logs, but 100% compliant. The second was e-logs.
The first company sucked, but the economy was tanking at the time. The second was great. I was still able to maintain close to 1000 bucks a week. My home time was a little less, but not bad. I am using paper logs again, but I only work 3 days a week and no one tells me to run over hours. Nothing I haul is worth going to jail over.
    Just my thoughts,

First you need to do some research and get the facts straight.

Yes, some companies are running cameras for a Govt. test. I just left Cargo Transporters because of them. As we all should do if they are installed. The camera runs 24/7 it's pointed out the windshield and on the driver. If an event is triggered it will send the 20 seconds before and 15 seconds after to an independent company to review the video. If they find a problem it's them sent to the company. It's not a part of Qualcomm!
