Bullseye2012-I read your entry to my husband who is awaiting a response back from SNI after filling out his app. Has other offers from other companies, but we both really want SNI and hope it goes as your experience did! What was picking your truck out like? Was it assigned or did you get to pick? Are you going OTR, Regional, Dedicated, etc? What does your truck come with that's standard? What can you add? What can't you add? Hope you are home already and having a great time with your family taking the next steps towards a better future-stay safe out there!

Hello, well I didnt get to pick out my truck out as Im fresh out of truckin school, if I was a veteran driver I might had that choice...my dispatcher did try to find a newer truck. I am getting a truck that someone is turning in after getting a newer truck himself.... I am going regional....it will be a Frieghtliner Centery class 2009,2010 the trucks will come with everything the company needs to track your progress and you alowwed a 180 invertor but theres always higher that can be used if you REALLY need it just not to much higher. Im home now and enjoying the time with the family and I pick up my truck with in the next 2 days woohoo im ready to get it cleaned out and turned into my own place to live and make my money for me and my family....... take care and be safe!!!!

pillbox Thanks this. -
Bullseye, hello! Thanks for the info. So, you have to get your own little fridge/cooler and microwave and all the little comforts you'll need, right? (Within invertor limits, of course). My husband is really looking forward to his own truck, too. He's hoping it'll be a white one. I was thinking he'd want an orange, but since white is my favorite, I am not going to complaiin! Guess I'll have to purchase a lot of cleaning supplies. Looking online at the brand new ones-NICE! But even with an older one, you'd be surprised at what a Mr. Clean Magic eraser (and a ton of elbow grease) can get clean! (I use them A LOT!). We are wondering just how far you can customize one inside....
Well, good luck on your first few trips. Keep posting when you can-sounds like we are in the same boat right now. Thanks for taking the time to post, too. Have a great week!pillbox Thanks this. -
If straight out of school, he will most likely get a 2007-2009 orange truck. All depends how long he will be out, if he keeps the truck or switches and the account his on... Overall, the trucks aren't bad. Even if it needs a bit of cleaning, have him talk to the DBL when he picks up the truck, if it needs cleaning he will get reimbursed for the cleaning supplies, just keep the receipts.
Don't buy everything at once (cooler/heater/inverter), have him run first and see where his running and how long. When I first started, I was on a regional/dedicated account and stopped by the house every day to pickup food or shower and was home every weekend, so really didn't need a fridge/cooler, just a small portable one if anything and one of those heater lunch boxes to heat stuff if anything.
Good luck to you guys!pillbox Thanks this. -
Thanks, BlackLions. I will read that to my husband. Makes a ton of sense! Your quote about living...it never occured to me 'cause I guess I figured most people do live, like me. Boldly, honestly, fully. But it does take a lot of courage and strength, really living life. I always say, "Life is not for weenies!" (Heck, motherhood isn't either, but that's another thread!) But after contemplating your quote for a while, it really explains about 95% of the people I've ever met! Maybe it will help me understand where others are coming from...
pillbox Thanks this. -
Hi guys, so there is a few do and donts that they have in place, on of those is that they dont allow Microwaves... but yes like BlackLions said is will depend on how long hes out...JUST FYI the white trucks are mostly for dedicated accounts, if your not on that your getting an orange truck
but thats ok just because its what we're known for.
as for customizing, you really have to remember that its a company truck and there are boundries that you have to watch, things like big tvs gas heaters, ovens you know stuff that might change the better well being of the truck are things that there not going to allow.
Ill keep posting as Im out on my first few louds or on the end of the first week. good luck to you as well and i think that your going to like being part of this company, I do so far!pillbox and AfterShock Thank this. -

Yeah I have some question too for the intermodal SNI group, running out of Green Bay, the reginal position out of Chicago. What is your most common freight lane? Can ya do crosstown- local in Chicago? and what does that pay. What is the idle policy in the summer, I like to run the night shift doing the Chicago railyards, but if I can,t idle a little bit on my 10 hr break during the day, that,s not an option. And how is the performance pay of .07 cpm broke down. One more question what is the ave. miles per week on the regional Chicago intermodal gig, please answer honestly thanks. I did the Chicago railyard gig over 2 years for jb, I talked with SNI intermodal drivers before, they seem happy. I talked to one SNI driver in a rail yard, he just hooked up to a trailer, then was checking another trailer out, writing the seal, box # down, I asked him your already dispatched on that one too, he said yup. I never had that happen at jb.

new drivers dont necessarily get orange....i got a 2011 freightliner silver/grey/beige whatever the heck color it is...kinda sparkly up close. but i might be changing trucks, my dbl said something about it today, mine is going in to the shop, again, tomorrow. for the same coolant problem that's been 'fixed' 2x already in the last month.
