I entirely understand what your say'n, & correct you are about what you want a radio to do, but the coax issue all I know is from hands on & whats been sugested be a reputable shop.
What I look for is RG58, but even the coax sold in truck stops have RG58 written on the cable but when in use the truck stop cables didnt tranmit/recieve as good as what I buy at the radio shop, & for the life of me I dont see why one can out perfom the other if ther both (supposedly) RG58, they look identical, unless its just the difference in the materials used.
I wish I understood all the technical side of it but it seems its like the old Miller commercial, LESS FILLING !!!....TASTE GREAT !!!, everyone has opinions & some get all bent out of shape about it, all I know is whats been sugested and actually seemed to make a difference in my radios perfomance.
Over the years (nearly 25 of them & countint) I've spent a sizable wad on radio junk, & all I want of mine is to reach a few miles down the road, then I turn it back down so I dont have to listen to all the morons (this practice seems to be par for the course now days), but I do want mine to do its job well so I keep my mind open to what the radio guys have to say.
recommend a CB?

Repeating info already posted, but here goes.
Long time ago had a radio man tell me the best radio in the world is junk without a good antenna. A decent radio with a good antenna will be a good radio. The man knew his stuff. Down to earth and full of common sense. He has since retired and I havent found a good radio man since.
As ramkatral stated, stay away from the wack pack crap. Been that route, it is wasted money. As a man once said, there is a sucker born every minute. I was the idiot of the day that time. Reminds me of an old saying, if it sounds to good to be true....Big_m Thanks this. -
