Welcome to my world. My mother said "I know you are a smart guy but can you make money in trucking?"
Told her there are 1,000's of idiots doing it everyday. So as long as a don't get too smart for my own good we should do fine. -
I had the truck in the drive today doing a few thing's to it and forgot to take the pic's. I'll take my camera with me in the morning and get a few pic's. I drove 2,250 last week...a couple loads heavy and the other loads light and I came up with 6.5 MPG running between 65 and 70 MPH !! I'm happy with that!!! Talking on the subject some of you all mentioned about speed, miles and loads I find that I make more NET money running shorter miles than I do if I would have ran my butt off. A week ago I ran 1,450 miles and had a net of $2,300... the week before that I ran 2,250 miles and the NET was $2,300 with two day's added to the week.
RedForeman Thanks this. -
Impressive fuel mileage no doubt.

Step 1: Collect underpants
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit!
Keep in mind gearing does have something to do with speed and fuel mileage. If the truck rears are geared numerically low it is geared to run most effecient at higher speeds. I believe the OP said he has a 13 speed so that would give him a little more flexibility to run in 12 at 60 or below if the gearing is off. Dropping speed doesn't always increase fuel mileage, but usually it does to the tune of about $1k/year for every 1mph slower you go. That is profit, or money if you prefer, directly in your pocket.
Work smarter, not harder.
I've been practicing in the company truck trying to increase fuel mileage just by adjusting my driving habits. It's governed at 64mph and according to the gps over the last 70k miles I average 60mph moving speed. My last 3 weeks I have averaged 7.42 - 7.89mph in a '12 pro star with the 12.4 maxxforce and a trainee driving half the miles. I'm trying to teach proper shifting techniques, progressive shifting when light and heavy, cutting the cruise in the mountains and downshifting to the proper gear to maintain speed with as little turbo as possible. I ranked in the top 10% in my class for fuel efficiency last month. -
Digger, you are smack dab in the middle of most of my family. My mother was from Altoona and have over 1,000 relatives that still live in the area. If you are familiar with Saylor and Sons they are my cousins. How long you been in that area?
-
Yep, you mentioned that to me before. I am familiar with saylor and sons, large cranes I believe. I have lived in this area for....24 years now plus a few years on and off as a kid (dad was in the navy).BigBadBill Thanks this.

Couldn't remember if that was you. Was going to try and get up that way this summer but business is keeping travel to business trips only (1-week vacation is the exception).
