Keep an eye on the egr cooler.

And EGR valve.

I had to rebuild my 2004 ISX at 675k burnt pistons and scored liners. Gotta really watch the tempeture on these engines because of the EGR

Head Gasket leaks developing usually at the drivers side rear of the head. Also front structure oil leaks. Gasket overhaul will run about $7k due to the complexity of removing the head.

Definitely ask whoever is selling it. Then call Cummins and ask how much an in-frame is going to cost. You can also call Cummins with the engine serial number and, if there was any work performed on that engine by Cummins, it will show up. Mine went at 595,000 miles but in my case, the circlip that holds the wrist pin in place came out and did some damage to the crank...no in-frame available...reman engine only or no warranty. These engines are not cheap to repair and not everyone will work on them.

They are good engines but everthing starts needing replaced about 700-720,000. Replaced turbo, both fuel pumps, and egr about that time, but have 950,000 now and been running in test mode foe last 200,000. Never had top cover off till last week when dropped new set of injectors in.

Matador, if you don't mind, how much did the injector job cost? That would be great info for the O/P.
