Same laptop & GPS unit in both trucks? How is the laptop powered? It's own internal battery or an external power source? If external power source, then you may try if the issue persists if you power it only with its own batteries.
What is the location of the GPS unit? Try placing it close to windows, so it has goodview of the sky. -
Been shopping around for GPS systems and was wondering how valuable you all find the Traffic Alert systems from XM or FMS. Seems like it would be something more valuable for cars as it would seem a pain to reroute a truck through sidestreets to avoid freeway traffic.
But then again, maybe you all find it invaluable so I would like some feedback please. Thanks. -
I've played around with the Traffic Alert in my Tom Tom GPS handheld, but it`s really pritty useless for a truck unless the highways closed.

My Sprint phone has the navigation package for $20/month that includes the works. Sprint's navigation software is really excellent and uses the GPS receiver right in the phone. I was at my uncle's showing it to him and mapped out the route home. Not much later it said traffic on US-23 southbound was backed up 8 minutes (or miles, don't recall which) and to press zero to re-route around it. When I finally did go home, I saw the barrels from where they had shut down a lane or two. If I wanted to get somewhere in a hurry, I'd be sure to leave my Sprint navigation software running. Turn-by-turn directions and all. If you have a Sprint phone and it sounds good. . There's a little demo they have, but the real thing's actually better. Plus you can find businesses by type, searching from your current location. On top of that, you can search for gas stations by price of whichever grade (or diesel) you want.
