So, is 146.520 where you guys listen on the road? Any of you guys use the 2m WIN system? I recently drove from LA to St. George and back with my 2m on 6.520 but heard very little activity and there were a lot of trucks on that 15. Didn't have a CB with me on this trip, that won't happen again.

Here in West Central Missouri there's still some active 70 cm activity, I believe though most of it is repeaters. I think the best one can do is find out for themselves what is active in their area....if it's more 2 meter or more 70 cm.
The Yaesu FT-857D does all of those mentioned. It's said to be the smallest HF/VHF/UHF on the market. You can even remove the face from the main body and mount the face on your dash while mounting the main body under a seat, etc. It's perfect for when you are tight for space to put a radio.

The FT-857D is a nice radio. My local club has one for RACES and field day use. The price tag is a bit steep, about $800.

HERE in Tampabay we also use 147.550 .....saintdel Thanks this.

The Yaesu FT-857D was my first Ham rig. It cost $650 and the Icom IC-706MK2G cost $950. The FT-857 at $800 range is still a great deal. And the cheapest all mode radio out there. Look at the Icom 7000 cost $1,300.
