I'll be there Nov 13 for orientation, it's been years since I drove so I'm back as a newbie, but that's cool with me. I'll tell the boy to look you up, he just called he's in Northern Mexico near Austin heading to the border.
I'll look you and the misses up also when I get there, our paths will cross someday. Great that she's catching on so qucik, wish my wife could drive with me, she did years ago she handles a big truck better then a car LOL. But she is on insulin so she'll just have to get used to being a passenger after me and the boy split after a year or two.

wel l i have been thinking about it for a while now and i think i am going to get on with prime you really have nothing to loose they try the best they can to show you haw to make money and if you don't like it it is a complete walk away lease.. do they put money on a feul card or does it all have to be direct deposited into your bacnk account

From the friends I have there if you are pretty good at managing your home bills and not overspending then you'll do good with their lease. keep good records is vital for any small business, so you can look and see where your money is going and where you can save. there are software programs on the net some are free to help you manage your money, just Google for trucking software programs and you'll get a bunch.

Their lease seems to be a good place to start, as Steve says if you don't have the credit or means to purchase then it's a good place to start and much better then a closed end lease as some companies offer.

Even outside credit, lets say you do have the credit and go out and buy a new truck drive it for 75,000 miles and decide this just ain't for you, well lets see if you can get your money back on the truck, NO. Then you will end up with bad credit because you call the finance company and tell them to pick it up ouch! Plus buying an old truck and leasing it to a company is usually not an option or you could try working independt and that can be interesting.

Good luck and talk with Steve and if you need the email of some other Prime drivers I'll be glad to get you in touch with them, they love helping people succeed.

My son in CDL training right now he's on his way from McAllen, TX to San Jose, CA 1968 miles, sounds like it's paying the truck in the $1.50+ range per mile.

Wolf....Welcome aboard! When you become an "A" seat and get your truck, you will be able to use your ID Card to purchase all your fuel, oil, tires....anything you need for the truck itself....The card is tied to the COMDATA system and the money you spend on it comes directly out of your settlements each week. You also want to get points cards from all the truck stops....I suggest that you go ahead and get one from T/A online @ www.tatravelcenters.com It takes a couple of weeks to get so you're better off getting it before you leave home.....Because that's where they're gonna send it. The discounts that we get can be substantial when you add them up!! Not to mention, the cards are what you use to get your showers and purchase points that translate into cash in the stores..... As Vulcan stated the company has programs that will assist you in knowing where your money is being spent and they have solutions to help you make any improvements you need. If someone fails here.... It's because they didn't try. See you at the Palace!

i think i am pretty much convinced to come to prime. i am working right now to get my phone back on and get a few hundred saved before i come over there though manley so i can get a fridge and microwave in the truck. right now my only bill is my cell and rent with my lil bro so when i am on the road it will only be my phone. my fiance' is thinking about coming back out with me that will be nice.. i love being able to drive and when i stop bam dinner is already for you. plus she is alot better with money and thinks things thjrough better.

i was told by another contractor named john aka high voltage that he just files taxes at the end of the year and by the time he has deductions he never owes does this sound like the general thing most run into the deductions balance out taxes owed..

can you do the 3 weeks out 4-5 days off thing or will they take miles away from you if you do that.. i'd like to run good and steady for 3 weeks and then take a breather and enjoy my time then hit it again.

thanks guys looking forward to chatting with you all on here

I know I have plenty of deductions on the road....but, my main deductions are # home......the mortgage thing, etc. With you not having any bills....you will be paying taxes.....ALSO....max out a Roth IRA.....at your age......If you max out a Roth....for 15 years.....when you turn 59....you can quit....and live off what you've saved.....TAX FREE!! For that matter, you might want to do a conventional IRA too....just for the tax purposes. But, if I were only gonna do one.....I'd do the Roth for sure.

You can do the 3-4 week # a time if you want..... They will not get mad # you for taking time off....and one thing you will learn....it's not about the miles.....It's the REVENUE.... I had one week where I barely did 2200 miles.....but my revenue was $3500!!! They have some short little loads that pay REAL GOOD!

The way they think.....take as much time as YOU can afford....it's your business.....you run it.

    If your girl drives......then it's a different story all together.....LARGE $$$
I'll be posting some preliminary numbers for our 1st week running full fledged team loads later tonight or tomorrow.......tune in kiddies!!! I got a feeling I'm gonna be called a liar by several!!

    Let's see....
    Load 1 - LA to Fort Worth - $2008 - 1350 mi
    Load 2 - Lufkin, TX - Merced, CA - $2596 - 1968 mi
    Load 3 - Lodi, CA - Morris, IL - Lyons, IL - $3220 - 2143 mi
    ok...That's $7824 GROSS Revenue for 5461 mi.....$1.433 mi
Not too shabby for our first full week! And I can't help but belive it's gonna get better....and better!!!
I'll try to include more numbers in the future.....so I can give you guys a better idea of the actual costs of doing this for a living.....to better represent what actually goes on here.

Also....Wolf....You'll be better off taking a few ziplock bags....your toolbox.....and about an hour....to take the cabinet out and disassemble it... You CAN have the Detail Shop take it out for you....but...$$$. You will be getting a physical from their doctor as part of the Orientation. I'd take a couple hundred if I had it.....but it's not necessary. If you're gonna be an 'A' seat, and leasing on Friday....any expenses can be charged to the truck. And, you don't have to worry about buying any meals while you're there....they'll provide the food!
