My first truck was a Freightliner cabover. Had to bunks in it and was actually very spacious. Had to climb over the dog box though to get into the back. The dog box has its advantages and disadvantages. Great for keeping all your stuff on that you need while driving. They are fun to drive! They have a joystick instead in place of your normal gear shifter shaft. Your knees though are the first thing at the scene of an accident! Great for newbies though because they have an excellent turning radius and can easily get into very tight spots! On the downside like Gizmo said, every time you have to get under the hood you have to flip the entire cab forward causing all your belongings to end up on the windshield if they aren't tied down! Guess that helps keep a clean truck!

As far as companies using them, I think they are very scarce now and doubt you will find a company that uses them. There are some owner operators out there that still run them. They are very big in Europe due to the small roads and tight little villages and towns.

Like I said they are fun to drive but I personally wouldn't want to drive one everyday. I have had my fill!

The reason that the COE fadded away is simple. The federal government standardize the length law. How many remember the 55' law back east and the longer out west? That's the reason and then you started seeing conventionals under trailers back east. I do believe that if you ran a conventional back east you could only run a 40' trailer. Do I remember correctly??
