Stopped by a CB shop today. Noticed that there were no Magnums on the shelf and asked why. I was told that they're going out of business and are no longer producing radios. Anybody else hear anything about this?

Negative. Magnum has discontinued the * S * series radios. The factory they were using changed their manufacturing plan not to the satisfaction of Magnum. They then contracted a different manufacturer. This process is now underway. There will be new model lines coming this year and next, some based on the raptor board. There will be some lag time in availability now and then due to the new facility getting to full capacity.
The shop you visited is either ignorant or ill informed. This information I pass along is directly from the owner of Magnum.IDIeselman, freight shaker and Flip Flops Thank this. -
I can't blame Sam for looking for another company to manufacture his radios after all the problems with the last rum of 257HP and Omega Force radios.Personally I'd like to see him dump the Raptor line and re-release an updated version of the AR-3500. -
The omegas and 257s, even raptors have had their issues. Then again I've noticed EVERYONE having more DOA and defects since the china onslaught. Hard to believe the labor savings and the cheap parts savings really outweigh the 100% + increase in warranty repairs... but that's just MHO -
Sounds like I'm not the only one with a bad radio. I have an S-3 that's had all kinds off issues. I bought it because of the features, looks, price and it was the latest and greatest technology.
As luck would have it... it spent more time in the back of a package van going to and from a warranty center than it did on my dash of my truck the first year I had it. I'm not that impressed with it. I hope Sam and Eric get things back on track.
Thanks for the response guys.... -
So what will happen if you have a Magnum radio and it starts giving you fits?

Do yourself a favor and buy a ranger or connex

Of all manufacturers, Magnum and Galaxy have the best customer service bar none. That's 30 years of dealing with defective radios experience.Flip Flops and WA4GCH Thank this. -
