Smoke on cold start up.

    Had the heads off to check.
    They were sealing perfectly.
    Liner protrusion good.
    Compression test perfect.

    Timing cover was never removed.
    Truck has under 250 000 miles from new.

    Still exactly the same white smoke for first minute on start up.
    Agents are at a loss because all tests come back perfect.
    They are now going to change injectors for the 3rd time in case they have a bad batch and the 2 previous sets were from this batch.

    I'm not familiar with this model of engine. Does it have any EGR coolers, this white smoke may be from an internal coolant leak. Are you loosing any coolant? Does this have an after treatment system DPF, DOC and some kind of down stream injector, the injector could be leaking fuel when first started. Does this engine have any kind of cold start assist system like a Maxxforce 13 cold start igniter? The Maxxforce has a small injector in the intake manifold that will spray some fuel onto a glow plug to help start when cold, an over fueling condition could cause smoke at start up.

    No aftertreatment on those engines.
    No EGR.
    It does have glowplugs.

    No EGR , no after treatment , not even glow plugs on this engine.

    Our own mechanic thinks it can only be a nozzle drip.
    We will know on Monday when the 3rd set of new injectors are tested.

    We did have a bit if fuel dilution in the oil.
    This however could be from removing and refitting the injectors a few times because of the way the back leakage works.
    It always leaks some diesel in to the cylinders.

    White smoke is un burnt diesel so it is either getting it at the wrong time , in the wrong form or there is a mechanical issue causing it not to ignite.

    Not that i don't believe you but is a first for me.

    Is it a mechanical pump(old school or electric ? )
    Euro 2 or 3?

    Euro 3 I believe.
    Electric.

    Where would I find this glow plug/plugs you are talking about?
    Nothing in the heads or intake manifold.
    I would love to find something and this could be it but nothing I have seen.
    We have 8 DAF 12,6l and none have glow plugs as far as I know.
    I will make sure in the morning.

    King Q,if you have them(should have unless it is a special version),you will have a button on the row left or right from the steeringwheel.
    It will have like a coiled wire on the switch.
    That is the glow plug.
    If i remember correctly,the glow plug is in the intake manifold.(been driving a Euro 5 since 2006)
    Heats the air before it goes into the engine.

    I really don't think we have glow plugs on these.
    We have had many trucks with glow plugs but I have never seen it on the DAF trucks we have had.
    We have only had DAF for about 3 years so I don't have much experience.
    They have been good and even this one (XF95-480 6x4) runs well and is good on fuel.
    Our trucks are "Tropical spec" so they don't expect extra cold weather.

    Believe me I am going to check to make sure as I could be dead wrong.
