The only ones I've heard of so far are some of the food service day cabs that deliver to fast food and other restaurants.

I haven't heard of anyone with a sleeper truck talk about having camera's in them. That doesn't mean they're not out there. I doubt you need to worry about this for a while yet. If you are concerned about this just make sure you ask the company if they use in cab cameras before you go to work for them.

Good idea, also not only if they have them, but if they plan to get them anytime in the future. We know how companies lie.

Sorry did not mean to offend anyone ..

I didnt say you shouldn't use a cell phone.. What I did say is I can see them requiring drivers to use a handsfree device ... That doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to call or recieve calls from home at anytime..

Second just to let you know my situation .. I happen to be a HVAC repairman for the past 20 yrs actually before the cellphone :) and I know all to well about the company calling me on the phone while I'm driving .. its their phone .. they provided it .. I drive around town a good part of my day..

As for the REAL School.. Who would you recommend in my area.. We have a Community College about an Hr away I'm thinking about..its $2700 ea ..

We still have some time .. it will be at least 3 yrs .. We still have teens to get graduated from High School.. :) So we can go back to school ... I have be in the Heating and A/C business as a repairman for 20 yrs now, I'm Soooooo Ready for a career change... and it something my wife whom has been home for the past 12 yrs with the kids a profession where we can hopefully if done right make us a few bucks too tuck away before I/we retire ... I figure we have about 12-15 yrs at the outside before I'm just to old to do much..

I know the community college by us has a decent one. The best thing is to make sure all your training isn't in a parking lot with cones. You don't learn a thing that way. Real trucking schools take you right on the streets. We love being on the road together, it is very rare that a couple can handle being together 24/7, if that will work for you it's great. As far as money, depending on your financial status there are a lot of programs to help pay, or even pay for it all because drivers are very much in need. We live in Maryland and they have a Job Consortium and they pay completely if you qualify. Check with your local unemployment office for more information.

Also, I know about the company cell phone, even worse our last company made us use our personal cell for all business. They even went as far as saying we should answer the phone with the company name every time and take off hold music. We refused of course, it wasn't their phone, and there was nothing they could do about it.

Maybe not driver......just read an article in the latest Trucker mag., seems the idiot patrol at truck mgmt. is on the loose again.

There's a co. that now sells driver predictability software. ( no sheet ) Runs on a 28 day cycle ( smirk) and predicts driver accidents, w.c.claims and the likelihood you will quit along with a few other things.

England has bought it along with a few other megas....and maybe....the Pumpkin. Read the article.........

Get ready for prison then. I would hazard a guess in five years all devices will power sown when movement is sensed.

A company can not harras you unless you let them. Period all the paranoid fantasies aside you have to let them. Don't give them your phone number, qcom and the like have volume and fuses. In addition you have the choice of working there or not.

If you can nit fit a phone call into a break, or down time I suggest better time management.

Did you hear about the yack off convicted of manslaughter recently for being on his phone and killing someone. I am sure he felt he could walk and chew gum as well. Now he can walk, chew something else, and entertain his cell mate. All of yoou people thinking those conversations are not noticed by those around you are quite delusional. We see every swerve, slow down, brake check, missed exit, erratic lane change............

Your being paid to drive in a safe compliant manner. I would suggest if you find driving to time consuming and cutting in on your socialization perhaps a career as a door greeter all they have to do is talk.

So if your team driving, this would mean up to 22 hrs a day none of those things would work.. I just don't see that happening .. IMO..

I agree. Not going to happen. Just a fantasy. As for the rest he lost his credibility with me when he started to claim he knows more about how people drive from an internet post than the safety managers who actually follow these trucks.
