I am new to this and need major help. My major #1 goal is to go OTR. But cant find a outfit to hire me. Keep getting the same story, no experience no hire. And when i call the companies that advertise hiring INEXPERIENCEDdrivers they require u go through trucking school. Dont have that luxury. I cant take 4-6 wks with no income, got a family to support. I got myclass A, hazmat and tank endorsements. Been in straight trucks for the last5 yrs. And the money is not there. Anyone got advice for a greenhorn!!

How long have you had your CDL without using it? They may just require a refresher course, from what I've been hearing, or else, yeah, full on TDS. Sucks man, sorry.

this is an insurance driven criteria only a small carrier will help i would think
you might be better off in a 6 wheeler and home with the family anyway

thats the thing there are no local outfits that will hire they want experienced drivers, local ag companies r full, farmers in the area dont hire strangers, tried that all already, and the company i was able to get in with driving straight truck is seasonal

I just talked to a recruiter at Central and by their standards you would take a two week refresher course and than be on the road for 5 weeks with a trainer. The first two weeks are not paid, but after that you will get paid. You can find the pay scale on the web site. The refresher course is $1500.00 and they will take out $29.00 per month for the first year and you are under contract for the first year. The other option was to pay full price at $3000.00 and no time commitment.

    Hope that helps.

Check with Stevens, Schneider, Prime. If it's only been three months, I don't think any of them will require a refresher course.
Did you get your Class A thru a school or just on your own? Because the insurance companies push most of these companies to make sure students have 160 hours in an accredited school.

Don't know much about Stevens or Prime, but Schneider is a good starter company. I got my start with them and all in all not a bad company to start with. Get in a year or 2 and a lot more doors will open. You may have to go out with a trainer for a few weeks, but you will be making some money while doing so.

Nowadays its tough to get on with a company unless you have RECENTLY gone through an accredited school or have recent over the road experience. It can be done but will be tough.
