My company currently uses an O/O for a dedicated run. This O/O has his own tractor and trailer. If we were to use an O/O who had his own tractor but was pulling our trailer would we find a better rate usually? Thank you for any help, I am new to working with Owner/Operators and have always dealt with company drivers in the past :)

You need to post more details. Type of trailer, miles etc. No one can advise you on this situation without knowing more than what you have told us.

Typically you will get a better rate per mile, if they are pulling your trailer, but its only pennies. Power only means just that, the O/O is providing the power to pull the trailer. He's still insuring the trailer, load and paying for all expenses to move it, including the fuel.

BHW is right. Some things to think about. For us, we have trailers, it costs us more money to haul your trailer. The O/O that doesn't have a trailer is likely going to be one that is on a financial thin line. They may give you a better rate for the opportunity to run and not have to buy a trailer. But is the savings worth it to you to have a driver that is strapped and all the dangers that come with that.

But details on your operations would help greatly.

Sorry, it would be a 53' refer. I am not against using an O/O with his own trailer, we just have one too so was wondering if it made a huge difference and what it entailed. Like I was saying before, I am new to using Owner/Operators so am trying to understand it a little bit more. Thank you for the great advice!

Also as far as miles driven it is about 1400 - 1600 per trip.
