FMCSR requires you to be physicly able to operate and enter/exit a commerical motor vehicle.
now... ive never seen a freightshaker with a wheelchair ramp or a kwhopper with a pair of crutchs mounted on the fuel tanks....
so this leads me to my question: why are there handicap tractor trailer parking spaces at truckstops and rest areas???????

hehehe.....
Good point.
I guess they do it so that they don't get some stupid lawsuit from a group that represents handicapped persons. Even though there isn't any real need for it, the ADA says you have to have 'em. Even if they didn't put them in, probably cheaper to just go ahead and do it than to fight it out in court.
.......or maybe it is for RV's with handicapped persons? -
And why do drive-up ATMs have braille characters?
Nevermind...
Come to think of it, I have seen blind drivers...

There are drivers with disabilities, and they have had their trucks equipped in ways to make it possible for them to continue driving. I've seen at least one magazine article concerning a driver who has had a limb amputated, and his truck was modified to allow him to continue in his profession. It's not very common, but there are some drivers. And the rules apply to a truck handicapped space just as they do for a car. if you don't have the requisite sticker, then you don;t get to park there.
Personally, I think they go through too much to continue driving, but that's merely my opinion and they have a legal right to continue as long as they can do so safely. -
i think big poppa hit it on the head with his RV's. you think a 40' ol' fart mobile will fit in a normal space, they need those spaces.
-
i doubt they saw you

Sorta... When they tried to "see" me, they found out real quick what a black eye feels like... Ain't no one gonna read my braille like that 'cept my wife. :smt047

My step dad is a cancer survivor with only one lung. He has a valid CDL and medical card good for only one year. He is healthy enough to perform his job safely as an OTR driver. However, he has a permit for parking in a disabled spot. After beating cancer (originally only given a 10% chance of survival) and surviving Vietnam, twice, I say let the man (or any other like him) have the closer spot.
With your long legs, Too Tall, it's only gonna add 30 seconds at most for you to walk a little further. Now count your blessings that you can handle that walk without any discomfort or pain.

oh dont misunderstand me, im not complaining. if possible i always park farthest away from the truckstop as possible for the exercise
i hate parking right next to it cuz its too loud too busy and not enough walking.
i just couldnt figure out why there was handicapped spaces at the truckstop. it seemed weird. the way i understood the fmcsr u had to be healthy as a horse or find another job. didnt think you could get handicapped parking # a cdl at the same time -
I apologize if I came off a little harsh, man. I've had a rough week. Hope I answered your question. I was once curious about it as well, until my step dad opted to get off of disability to become a driver.
