Let me try to answer some of your Choice questions:
Empty Trsiler Home No If you do, they will charge you $50/day
One Year O/O experience: No, can be 1 yr. company driver also
Flat Rate looking for Trailer: Yes, starts at 51 mile radius and progresses upward
Lease thru SNI is not only for owner operators, you can lease thru
Smart Choice program for you truck and run Choice
WorkFlow is coming in September, The 25 people chosen to beta test it will start using it in two weeks
The fuel discount at present is .22 for the cash price at Pilot/Flying J, .04 at TA/Petrol
Things to remember, know how to use a computer, have some management skills, work and don't goof off all the time, know the road systems, keep deadhead mileage to a minimum, book loads under 20K, pay your quarterly tax payment, knowing how much fuel to put in the tanks to maximumize profits
The whole program offers many good deals, compare them to other places. i.e. insurances.
Yes i do believe that some of the cost are a bit more, doing it all with Schneider, but when you need something, you know who to call.
Some guys believe in short mileage high/mile loads, some believe a good balance between working days and days off, some are totally on the road three weeks at a time with a week off. But it is your choice, not a DBL
For myself, i work 4 1/2-5 days a week, usually running 4 loads. bring home $1000+ weekly after all Settlements deducted. Set aside about $1200 per quarter for Quarterly Estimate Tax, you need to pay. Or have Schneider take it out before you get your check and put it in your General Fund account that is yours to pay it when it comes due.
Hope this helps out some, good luck
One last thing, about the Choice Program, I was told this week, it does have a cap limit of how many drivers there can be in it
It's starting to get near that cap. Then you will have to wait till someone leaves it to get into it.
Good Luckrickybobby and US MARINE Thank this. -
Thank you for your post . I have a few other questions I'd like to ask if your able to answer them
The $500.00 repower fee what is that and how does it work if your broke down ? How does payroll work .. Is it Monday thru Friday or Monday - Monday ?
3. Fuel cut off is it by the load or a certain time a week it happens for settlements ?
Booking freight .. How far ahead can you get and what can you see your avg CPM be per load 1.30 1.40 or upwards of 1.70-1.80 ..
Thanks in advance
Oh best orientation spot : Greenbay or Charlotte -
Someone please correect me if I'm wrong. I have been doing a lot of research on being an o/o and on the tax side I have read and been told by my accountant to set aside 30% of your net for quarterlies, ss, self employment, etc...At $1,000/week net you are looking at more like $1,200/month rather than quarter. Unless you already have the extra set aside in which case I apologize.

You're forgetting your per diem. $59/day at 80% for 5 days a week would be $12,305 write off. Also is probably married. If your spouse makes less than you, your tax liability goes down as you stay toward the lower brackets.
If you're a solo making $50k is different than married making $50k and your wife makes $20k. Now, it's like two people making $35k. -
Everyone taxes is different, to many variables to compare . I usually set aside 20% a week for taxes, and i am set up self proprietor
