Hey folks, im a rookie here, trying to learn the IN's and OUT's on the trucking industry, i have posted a few threads here, and i want to thank everyone out for assiting us " newbies " and welcoming us in.
as i have stated before that i am still a student on school, have about 5 months left and i am looking to go and work for Werener to Schnider Nat.
and i have been reading a lot of these post and i see that schnider looks a little bit better, however i also see that werner looks worse and better based on what i have read, based on what i have read and understood i am leaning more towrds werner based on some things i have read and what the reqruiter that came to school had to offer
so that what brings me here, to the " vets " of the indusrty , id love to hear your input on my situation
anyanything would be great, thanks again to everything and everyone.

Out of those 2; I say snidey.
-
i would say the big orange...my dad use to drive for werner but he quit after they kept him waiting for days on end all the time for loads
-
im going with schneider, check out http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/werner/ for more info on werner
-
Go with SNI. I drove for them myself, and liked them. They will keep you rolling. I never had any layover time waiting for a load as my next load was pre assigned before I delivered! The only I am not still with them is because my kid got sick for awhile and I had to come off the road for awhile.

Of the two...I would say Schneider. But why limit yourself? Even as a student driver you have dozens of choices that could and would be better than those two. The biggest question to ask yourself is what do you want out of trucking? Schneider and Werner both experience an excessive turnover (as do most companies that hire students) but their's is through the roof.
Look at some of your other choices (i.e - TMC / US Xpress, etc..) I know that all companies have good and bad, the key is to gather as much info as you can. The more knowledge you have about choices is your power in making a decision. -
Schneider is the better of the 2 hands down. Established lanes and freight levels alone make Schneider the better prospect. Besides that paperless logbook of Werners is a real damper on a drivers earnings. Too many glitches.

hey driver020976 jikk;j777 truckingpopeye thanks for the reply. sorry i couldnt get back sooner, i was out of town the past 2 days, everything i have read is great
here what i will do, i will tell you what i am looking for, and hopefuly, based on the info i got from ALL of you, you all can give me some guid lines here
what i am looking for is a comp that has a good rep, someone who has trucks that are 2000 or newer,
decent pay, knowing that i am student
im only 21. im in school until march 08, also in march ill be turning 22
im looking for either dry van, flat bed, or someone that specelizes in heavy duty/wide/long. any of the those 3, for now, however as i get the " over the rd experience " id like to at least try other things such as refer and tanker...
also, i have no kids, not married, no gf--well kind of--no big deal, no MAJOR bills, im young, trucking is what i have always wanted to do,
i am looking for OTR. im not to worried about being home,
i figure going and starting with a company, and working, and showing them that i am able to preform my job, work with their request, as long as they work with my very little request, and that would be being home the day before, the day of, and the day after for both thanks giving and x-mas, ill work otr the rest of the year, i have to real reason not too
so you tell me who i should go and work for that has a good reputation -
for flat bed ive heard mavrick, for dry van and tanker schneider has one of the highest regarded company provided training programs. however if you can afford it get your cdl with out company training do it so you dont have a contract hanging over your head tieing you to one company. unfortunatly i cant do that so im going with schneider for at least 18 months.

You may want to consider Gainey (GTS) they have a terminal in Hanover Pa. Roehl has a pretty decent program over all. Crete is an excellent choice but I am not sure if they take students.
