Well I completed my class A schooling and decided to go with Swift, as they have offered a dedicated route (Dollar Tree) and weekends at home. Orientation starts June 25th and I am anxious to get it behind me so I can start my training with a mentor. I will keep this thread posted with events as they unfold.

Not the first I've heard that... What information do you have about the Dollar Tree accounts? Any knowledge is appreciated.

Not sure what the reason... but there's something that they offer you those "sweet" dedicated accounts right out of school and home on the weekends. Not sure if its dollar tree or dollar general but the wait times to get loaded/unloaded at those places suck, just sitting there and waiting.

Pretty sure that's driver unload. Throw conveyors in the trailer and have to put the boxes on the conveyor. Don't know about how many stops those are. No Docks and prolly tight places. Not like doing a drop at a Walmart DC.

hmmm, could be why it was an open route. I will have to research this more with the recruiter and see exactly whats involved. I dont mind the unloading but the tight places situation might be difficult for a new driver, such as me. thank you for the input.

Unloading a 53' van full of small to intermediate sized boxes is no picnic. I did it on Target and K-Mart loads way back when I was much younger, and it literally beat the crap out of me. Make sure you are in good physical shape if you are going take that account.

LOL...I'm guessing you're an ex-Marine so I suppose you ARE actually in pretty good shape!

I used to work for swift. Dollar tree accounts are always open because no one wants to do em . They are heck to get in and out of a lot of stores. You have to unload yourself. You must go to 3 stores a day. The lifts on the trailers tear up a lot. The rolltainers sometimes break peoples arms by slamming together. You get 10 dollars per store to unload, and then after last load, 80 dollars to complete, plus mileage. You do make more money overall, but it is a big hassle.

My cousin worked for swift on a dollar tree account, he's a muscular dude and his back always hurt. He did it for 3 months and said heck with this. The stuff needs unloaded under rain, snow, ice and all other weather conditions. He went back otr. Hope it works out well for you though, it's not as glorious as swift makes it out to be. But who knows you may like it. Pays pretty good though I hear.
