I suppose you could call Schneider, JB Hunt, Swift, and Knight "container companies" in that they have inter-modal divisions in select markets and these also train.

Intermodal simply means that more than one form of transport is used to deliver the product to the destination. It could be a combination of transport methods including sea, road, rail, or air. For example, a container might be shipped across the country by train, then it's placed on a truck at the rail yard to get to its final destination.

Most of the smaller container hauling companies have owner operators. Some of the owner operators have multiple trucks. Maybe one of them will give you a chance. It all depends on what their insurance carriers restrictions as well as the companies restrictions are. I haul containers from time to time. You may think hauling them is simple but there is a lot to know. One important thing is that the chassis that the boxes sit on is usually junk. The tires are always recaps (prone to blowing out),the lights don't always work, they pull hard, very hard to slide tandems, brakes are not always the best and a lot of the times they are not loaded correctly. I have had many loads that I wouldn't pull because it was over gross weight or all the weight was up in the nose. If you do find a carrier that will take a chance on you remember to always use zip ties to hold the locks in place.

    hculiver Thanks this.

Like STexan said, you may have to call some of the bigger companies like Schneider, JB Hunt, Swift, etc. because most of the smaller intermodal companies require atleast 1 year of driving experience. Good luck! Let us know what you find out.

I checked with Schneider and was told I needed 6 months experience before doing intermodal.
