So, here it goes. I've been looking around for companies to train with as I was going to go to school and get my CDL-A that way, but I found out that I am being laid off in a few months. So, I don't have the change to go the private school route. My driving record is okay except I have 1 fender bender incident in a parking lot when I first started driving about 5 years ago. My medical records have that I had 2 seizures, but they were provoked. Although the neurologist put on my records that I have a seizure disorder. The seizures will be 5 years old in August, and I'm not on any medications for them. So my first question is, do I have a decent shot at getting in with a "decent" starter company? Also if I can get in with a company, some of my priorities are a rider policy as I know my brother and other family members will want to come out on the road with me now and then. Home time isn't as important, as I'm really wanting to leave the house anyway and get out on my own. Due to the economy I have been stuck working dead end temp warehouse jobs. I have been looking into companies like Prime, maybe Roehl, and TMC if I have too. I mainly want to avoid going all the way across the country only to be turned back. I called into a place that does DOT physicals, and they said I should pass if I can get a letter stating that the seizures were provoked. Although I have heard that even if I get my own DOT physical, companies will redo them anyway. So that's my situation, and I appreciate any advice anyone has.

If you mean something like flashing lights "provoked" the seizures that might be a problem.

Many things can cause seizures, anything from certain meds to your diet.. And if they're non epileptic and you have it under control you shouldn't have a problem..

Provoked meaning a whole number of things have to happen in order for them to occur. They will not just happen randomly on their own, non-epileptic I guess is the term. I use to be on meds for them, a few years ago, but after a few years of nothing happening, I was removed from the meds, and for the past 2 or so years since being off them, I have been fine.

No you do not stand a chance. Put yourself in their shoes. Are you going to hire a driver that has an unresolved seizure problem? It doesn't matter how long ago, you'd be a huge target in any liable suit case. I do not believe you'd even get past the insurance companies. This is a very big problem for someone that's is trying to get behind a wheel of a commercial vehicle. Not only is your age a problem but I do not think you'd even get that far where age came up. I'm sorry for such harsh news but really?

It was resolved, i got treated for it and then finished the treatment and now I'm doing good. Also how is age an issue? I know there are other people out there driving that are the same age as I am.

Check with your DMV. You may not be eligible for a CDL.
The word 'seizure' is anathama to insurance companies, trucking companies and anyone else that is in position of liability.
Doesn't matter if they happened 25 years ago.

Go find a doctor that REGULARLY does driver physicals for DOT purposes and see what he/she says.
With that information, they may not want to put their signiture on the line either.

i would seriously reconsider because if for some reason you should have a siezure while driving a rig you could in all probability kill yourself and anyone who is near your rig. Remember, your driving what could be considered a 'deadly weapon', it is not something to be taken lightly by no means. I really hope you find a good job. the reason I am saying is because my sister has grand maul siezures and she had one while driving a car and really had a bad time.

Yeah, I understand it being a red flag, so many things I've wanted to do have gone down in flames because they see I have that history, and well, that's as far as it goes. So I'm use to having the door slammed in my face.
