Hi all, my CB receives great and from a good distance i can pick up most people, but i can't get out across a parking lot let alone anywhere else and im not quite sure what the problem could be,

there is no whining noise or anything

truck is a 08 volvo 730 with an antenna on each mirror with ground straps

    SWR is about 2.5

any help would be great thanks in advance Alec

I'm no expert as I'm looking for advice in another thread, but I can tell you that your SWR is way too high. You need to try and get that down to at least 1.5 or better.

I agree. 2.5:1 is really too high. You want the SWR as low as you possibly can. A 1.0:1 would be perfect, but not always achievable.

1.5:1 is very good. That only means you're only losing 4% of your signal.

2.0:1 is ok. You're losing 11% of your signal.

You either have a coax issue or an antenna issue.

What kind of radio, coax and antenna are you running?

Are you running factory antennae or coax? Are they cophased?

the antenna's are 52" red fiberglass.. factory coax radio is cobra 29 BT... i think i might have found some of the problem the mounts don't have the plastic piece they have 5 washers stacked up so it will be tight.. i think that makes the antenna ground out? but not sure im new to this

i traced the coax tonight and its not collapsed any where

Correct. There's nothing insulting it from grounding the center conductor if there's no nylon washer. Also replace the factory coax. It's trash.
