Oh yea, Like Balakov said, converyers that are heavy that you have to put together to roll product down. If I were you, I'd just try to get a regional or otr position to start with, so you wont be going into so many tight places. There is almost always a catch with dedicated routes. A lot more work usually, and a lot of tight places. I ran out of the Oklahoma city terminal, so they had a lot of dollar tree accounts out of the Ardmore Ok DC. They do have some Dollar General accounts, but it's the same thing, bad. Good luck with whatever you do

I have worked for Swift before, one of the trucks I was issued was previously used for Dollar Tree.
After about a month I finally got a chance to dump the conveyors off in Lancaster. They were heavier than hell lol.Rodneydusmc Thanks this. -
The pay does sound good (1200 wk) however, I just retired from one job and I am not looking to break my back at a second career. I will definitely speak with the recruiter this week and get more information on the route and to see if there might be something regional instead of this dedicated route. Thanks for all the information guys, I really appreciate your words of wisdom.

but but it fun backing down a one way street backward , make that sharp 45 angle back , miss that power pole you can't see on the right side, back up too that little door as you jump the curb, then you get that all done , with out hitting anything, then you have too put your roller belt all together, um no thank's, i'll take otr before i do that again, that's what i had too do one day while out in pa, then unloaded a load of washer and dryers, dryers were not bad, but whohad that bright idea, was it too put concrete blocks in the bottom of the washers, after i unloaded that , i took my 34 , i was wore out.

Yeah you better do a recheck on that . Cause if experience serves me right , if you fresh in the door getting a "Premo Run " I'd want to know why the other 16,200 drivers already inboard at Swift didn't want it first , or why the last guy ran off from it . Now with that said I'm not saying anything bad about Swift but you stated you just retired so if you looking for open road and not allot of hassle I'd look into OTR or Regional leave that Dedicated stuff alone . It's also been my experience in trucking if it's too good to be true 101% of he time it is .
Things to look for on this Dedicated run they offer you or things to ask .
1. Load times : is it preloaded or do you have to "live load it "
2. Unload : Assist or Complete off load by driver . And extra pay involved .
3. How many stops per load On average
4. Stop pay
5. Avg time at each stop
6. Is there detention time paid after 2-3 hrs if delayed on top of stop pay or off load pay . Reason I say this I used to do this on a Kmart account and I can't tell you how many times I set in the store dock or back door ( both ) for 1-2 hrs before the " Recieving Crew" got there to off load me ( or assist and count pieces etc ) then 2 hrs latter I'm done total of 4 hrs but I go NO DETENTION PAY just a strait $40.00 for 4 hrs and I had to touch each case on the truck . Someone will say that don't sound bad at $10.00 a hr . Do 2-3 stores like that or even close to it at say 3 hrs and only get 200 miles down and that pay per day drops a ton ...
Id be sure I touched the bare minimal questions cause like I say if it sounds good in trucking it normally is not . But it also could be a GREAT DEAL also but I'd be sure I asked before I found out the hard way and your stuck on it ..
Semper FiEverett and Rodneydusmc Thank this. -
And this is why Swift gets a bad name. Putting a new driver on a Dollar Tree account. That is insane. But what do they care. They self insure and after the first couple of accidents they will boot you to the curb and stick the next unsuspecting driver into the account.
FYI, these accounts pay good money for unloading. How much are they going to pay you?Rodneydusmc, US MARINE and Everett Thank this. -
Seems as though I am not that interested in the swift dedicated account. I will check into regional...
-
That would be your best bet.

One thing you can take to the bank is we have all been there where you are and steering you around a obstacle that most of us didn't get the advise to steer clear of . Swift will be a fine starter company just stay away from that account. You will thank me latterRodneydusmc Thanks this.

Your bank account will thank us too ... When your making more money
Rodneydusmc Thanks this.
