13spd, I usually pull in 5th, last gear on the bottom side. The truck has 4.33 rears.

Whats your wheel speed? I pull in 4 split (or is that 8th) highest gear in low range but I have 3:90 gears. With my new setup I almost think I can go even a gear higher. Gonna take some gettin used to

25mph at 2900rpm. Im planning on setting the transmission up to split the bottom side like a 18 just for pulling, and on the right track I should be able to use it, that will put me a 28mph at the same rpm.

Before I do all that it's going to get some weight hung on it, we l
allow weights up to 20k and right is mine only weighs 17k.

I'm sure I'm quite a bit underpowered compared to what you will be, plus if you are running an electronic engine you make loads more torque too and can afford a higher gear.

I don't know, Just a little ISX,:biggrin_25517: any higher and I'll be in high range, I know the clutch will hold it but Im afraid it will dog the motor. Maybe Pullin Trucker can input on this, How much HP you gotta have to pul in the high side?

It would be more of a match to wheel speed instead of actual gearing. I wouldnt want to pull in the high side much, I tried that once and I twisted a main shaft with my B model.

I would say to be running a 30+mph gear on a rpm limited engine it would take over 1000hp to be able to handle it on the far end of the track, if you can do it with rpm instead of gearing it would take less IMO.

Yeah, your probly right. Im gonna try and do same as last year and see if I can just power through more at the end of the track. Probly look like a fool first few times till I get the new setup figured out. Im roughly 150 to 200 HP more than last year. I have a SPL250 driveline, but I'd rather not leave it on the track. What are the guys in the PA Posse runnin for transmissions and rears to get the wheel speeds? Must have one helluva clutch to take it

The top contenders in the PA Posse run 18 speeds. 11R24.5 rubber. The rear gearing depends on the RPM limits of the engine, but they strive for a 32 mph wheel speed for a tight track in direct. On a lose track they may split the gear up into OD for more wheel speed.

The clutch commonly used is a Crower Pedal Slipper clutch in the stronger trucks. Some of the less powerful trucks will use the new style 6000 Lb Lipe or the old cast iron Lipe from the 70's that has been rebuilt to a 9000+ lb plate load

Jerry Ray's electronic CAT killed them again Friday night. 303' in the pull off. 2nd place was 216' 3rd was 194'.

Jerry's Dad in the KW with the KTA is having issues with his knee and left the line badly and placed 6th. He can't hardly hold the clutch down and this is causing him problems. He needs an operation to replace the knee joint, but wants to wait until after the season is over.
