WOW! Look at those tubes! I haven't seen anything like this since the 70's. It's a voltmeter...used for measuring voltage on electronic
equipment...usually radios.

 

It is a VTVM ( vactum tube volt meter ) they were the standard 50 years ago I got 2 of them but never use them.

 

Put it on eBay with a "condition unknown" and see how many start up a bidding war to get it.

 

Definitely a vtvm. The meter indicates it's for measuring ac signal levels. Judging from the ranges offered, the thing has to be very sensitive. Plug it in, if it starts to smoke unplug it. I would use a variable ac supply and start it low, say at 50v and ease up from there to line voltage.

 

It looks like something the military would use back in the 70's. Communication Measurement Lab is the company. They made all kinds of electronic test equipment, generators, battery chargers....

I googled it and all I could find was a manual for it. The website was down, but the manual sold for $25. So it's worth some money to someone. Who knows, someone might need one of them tubes and will pay top dollar.

They stop making VTVM's in the late 60's HEATHKIT had a kit but FET meters then digital ones took over ...

 

I would be real paranoid about powering it up, not so much for the tubes but the old capacitors.
