I work out of Springfield as I lived in Ohio when I signed up, during the winter/spring I ran mostly in the East, I would come out of home time and have a load to New York each time seemed like. Loved the miles, but hated to get stuck in NY for 2 weeks before being routed home. Now that summer is here I pick up in CA or Idaho and stay in the middle of the country pretty much, I was only in Michigan once last month all the rest was running from Texas west, love those miles. Am thinking of cutting back my time out to 3 weeks as my FM likes to only keep us out for 3 weeks, besides I never get home on time anyway lol, always 3-4 days late it seems. Which is not a big deal as I and the wife are flexible and understand this is not an office job.
    Be safe out there.

as everyone else mentioned it all depends on what you want you can do psd on one side then tnt on another then when you upgrade go with what you feel more comfortable with and like you said you can always switch later down the road given your home loc reefer maybe easier since prime has more reefer business down there than fb not a lot going on for us down in florida

ive dropped in florida a few times and have always deadheaded to GA for a reload the may be a few fb loads there but not many good luck with your decision

Thank you for the post. I've also considered tanker. I'm originally from northern Illinois and have thought about moving back and I hear the business is good there for tankers.

Even if you decide to run reefer or flatbed, you NEED a tanker endorsement. The FMCSA changed the licensing requirements to pull 190-gallon palletized liquid containers last year. By 2013 you must have a tanker endorsement to load these even if they are empty. I've pulled a couple of hazmat loads recently that loaded these containers in our reefer trailers, and I see them strapped down to a skateboard regularily. Its up to the states as to when they will start enforcing this; I've heard one guy relate that he got a rather expensive ticket in Houston already for not having the proper endorsements when pulling this kind of load.

That's all good food for thought. I suppose I'll run refer and get some time in and then maybe try something diff later on.
