Ok. Well here is the long of the short of it. I am sure I will have to add details as this goes but I am so pissed right now I don't even know my options nor what to do. So here it goes.

I pick a load of melons up on Thursday out of South Georgia. I speak with the broker and we finally agree on the rate. I get the rate con all is well. I get my last stop off and begin heading to the shipper. Broker calls and starts playing games. Like the load cancelled blah blah blah. It is now not gonna deliver until Monday blah blah blah. So after arguing with this guy I still get the stupid load. What a fricken mistake!!! they load the melons on. And of course they are 80 some degrees. This guy tells me to set my reefer at 40. Well we all know thats not gonna happen. So I set it at 60 start/stop. no biggie. Then I call the receiver. They don't know anything about the load. And the produce broker that gave the load to the broker is swearing up and down I had better not deliver this load before Monday or else he isn't gonna pay the truck broker. Well I figure thats no worry to me as I have a rate con for delivery Friday and thats a legal contract. needless to say for reasons unforseen reasons I didn't make it to the windy till just now. At this point I have spoken with the truck broker and he says he doesn't care when I deliver it. Cause he told me not till Monday he did his job. Now I am gonna call the customer tomorrow and see if they will take it tomorrow. I just at this point want to be done with this load.It has been NOTHING short of a PAIN!!! Caused me to lose a load for next week as well.

My opinion is one of two things. Either A. The load has not been sold yet, or B. This truck broker is pissed I got such a good rate that he wanted me to be late with the load so he could brick me for 300 bucks. I dunno what do you all think?

What are my options if this moron thinks I am gonna sit on this for a week while he tries to sell it? What legal ramifications would I have. ANd no just taking the thing and selling it myself is not an option as I don't want any claims.

Also I am sure I am leaving out a few things but I am sooooo pissed right now I am only seeing red.

Or they put a load of hot melons on you and they want your fuel $ and reefer to cool them down over the weekend to meet a requirement the receiver has...

Theres no way. Even if you set my reefer on 0 the temp would not drop that much. Those melons are stacked. 56 pallets in a 48 foot trailer. They are gonna hold heat no matter what.

Sounds like they are looking for someone to pay for this load. Since you already picked the load up, I would be more concerned if the receiver rejects the melons for them being too hot.

They'll take about 2.5 days to chill. They'll be just right Monday morning. I'm sure they played this game before.

Get you a bottle of rum, cut a hole in a melon and pour it in there. Then eat it! The weekend will go quick! :)

The lowest safe temperature is 40 degrees. Most haul 50-60. I would ask the receiver what temp they want them at. If they don't answer, ask the broker. Sometimes it's on the bills.

Yeah well. Let's see here. 60 degrees start stop. And 80 degree melons. This is gonna get good. I have an email from the broker to set it at 63. Lol. So I am being nice as far as I am concerned.

Go ahead. Shoot it. It's just an opinion. Lol. I can take it. I am man enough to admit when I screwed up. Lol. I make mistakes. This was one of them. It happens. However. When things change a carrier needs to be compensated. I really don't care about the load sitting till Monday as I live up this way. However, when the rules of engagement change. So does the price. If not I am MORE than willing to spend the 600 bucks it will cost in fuel to drag this back Dow. South to prove a point. Also at this point I now have the produce brokers phone number.
