Well, aside from knowing you shouldn't have taken it, it sounds like you've got a shady double brokered load and both the brokers aren't worth a fart in a wind storm. So I'd probably go with keeping the customer happy and refer any complaints to my lawyer friend that I would have been paying for quite some time to like me. A lot. I would try some more negotiating to squeeze some more cash out of the produce broker for the extra fuel. He might care as much about the other broker as the other broker cares about you and relocate some of his payment into your pocket where it belongs.
Worst case? Whole load to the farmer's market to the first person with cash. That's only if they violate the original contract enough for you to get away with it though. In the meantime, bluff a little. The shipper might even pay you to haul the load back just so they don't lose it to broker shenanigans.
Fricken livid!!!!

It he said 63, that's what I would go by. He get's his info direct from the customer.

Yeah. I am gonna buzz the receiver in the morning. See if they want it. If not I will call the produce broker first hand and squeeze some cash if possible. I know i hit the rate right there as most of the loads were going for 400 less. So I am good with that. I just was under the contract of it coming off the truck as quick as I could get it there. I will release the names of both brokers once I have been paid. I am quite sure that this was double brokered and I do believe that is unethical business practice.

Wow D sounds like the load from hell. Cover your backside on this one. Let us know what went down

Can't wait to hear how this one ends...Good luck now
I feel like having a melon this morning... -
Interesting. My melons are in a vented van. Couldn't you just open your vents and shut the reefer off? You got them hot, so I don't think that ambient temps will spoil them, and you'll save your reefer fuel.

All depends on what the customer ordered. Yeah pretty much this deal is a mess. Hence the reason I don't chase produce. I'll take barnyard pimp any day of the week over this crap. Sure it doesn't pay as well and it's stinky and yucky but man father headaches of produce just isn't worth it.RedForeman Thanks this.

Do you own a temp recorder? I hope so, I would have that baby going of proof to what's going on. I know one thing for sure I'd be on the phone with that broker and let him know this ain't your first rodeo. And let him know you've already alerted your insurance company as to the possibility of insurance fraud.

To keep the broker and buyer from getting the last laugh, you should start talking COD.
SHC Thanks this. -
If ANYTHING changes with the load, I ALWAYS get an updated rate confirmation, even for something as simple as a rescheduled delivery. And for me, if I agree to a friday delivery, and they change it to a Monday delivery, I'm getting more money for both time, and reefer fuel.
I played the back and forth BS with 1 broker before I learned my lesson. They changed the delivery, I didnt get it in writing, and it ALMOST cost me a LOT of money, but I raised a big stink, and had a come to jesus talk with the broker. First and last time dealing with that broker.
