Never, ever believe a recruiter. Your first few weeks you'll get miles. Then, the miles dwindle away. An average of 1500 to 1600 per week is more likely. Been there, done that.

I haven't had that experience. I have never had a 1500 mile week at Roehl. Never in 6 years. I average 2300 - 2600. Consistently. Maybe 1900 when I take a long hometime.
-
I haven't had a week that low either without coming off extended hometime. Even then not that low. Flatbed even.

Just skipped to the end here so not sure if someone mentioned it or not, but Crete is a good outfit to start out with. Miles are good and i believe they start you out at .37 per mile. I had no issue getting 2800+ miles with them. I just left to run local here in atlanta, but i was happy there for an over the road company. And from what i've heard and looked into after talking to drivers and recruiters in my short 2.5 years of driving, Crete has one of the better pay scales. hope that helps.

The only time I have had miles that low with Roehl was when I went to the Reefer divison....and it mostly was due to the poor planning of planners......but I rectified that situation and moved to a dedicated reefer Co...I did 1600 miles last week...but I get paid percentage...and I made as much as if I would run 3000 miles at roehl..!!

Legit, the number of miles you get seems like a toss up. Sometimes miles rock, for some people it sucks. Honestly it seems like whoever your FM ends up being amd the planners you're tied to. And I echo the load planners' habits mic said, sometimes you sit, sometimes you're running ragged. I've been on the reefer fleet for 4 months and I seriously push 2700+ every week, so I am the latter. You never have to touch the loads (except for modulars but those are one in a thousand) but be prepared for slow live load/unloads sometimes.

Ok Troll, so what is Crete's hometime policy? Like I said earlier, Crete said I would get home every 30 + days for a few days home. That sucks. Pay is nice, but hometime is nicer. For new drivers who need a little hand holding, there is no better company than Roehl.

Drove by the Roehl Terminal here in Appleton this morning, got me all excited. I've defiantly decided to go with Roehl for at least the first 120k than look at things after that. I am not a job hopper so if everything is fair and good I'd stay. Now it is just a matter when I finally put a notice in and submit an application and get on the training. Making sure everything is financially stable here at home before I do that. I am hoping to be going by the end of the summer. If it's any later I may wait until early next spring as I really don't want to be starting out through winter months.
-
Don't avoid that. You already have a leg up, being from wisconsin, so you know what winter's about. and going through school and being out with a trainer in winter, is learning to drive in winter with advice and experience sitting next to you. I wouldn't suggest anyone postpone training to wait for winter, mind you. but avoiding winter for winter's sake, is honestly irrelevant.Treefork Thanks this.

I did RDTC all through November, and wouldn't ya know it- the only day we had a squall was on the day of the REAL test. For the rest of the 3 weeks it was just cold as a mother. Born and raised in New England so it was just another winter for me, then in phase II we hit a whole bunch of snow and I was all good.
