so i live right in middle of the states , right on I-80 , would i be a good fit , if i wanted too run west, dont care for that ne corner, but everything else is fair game.

 

I got a callback today(well I guess yesterday now). Was worried because I needed to push my school date back 2 weeks. Finally got a callback and said it was fine and she would contact me again in a couple of weeks when its closer to time.

Is there a terminal in Chattanooga, TN? I'm fairly close to Chattanooga(I think 65 miles). I stand at 120 miles even according to google maps from ATL terminal to my driveway(because the terminal is on the farthest most outskirt of Atlanta from me.). So I guess if there is no terminal in Chattanooga, I'm out of luck about taking the truck home.

My big question is, that if I have some family that owns a business about 50 miles away from the terminal. The business is gated, lit up and locked every night. If I can't take the truck home, is there a possibility I could be permitted to leave it there on my home time?

Other than that and being really nervous that I'll mess up and get sent home I'm good to go and go into Texas on July 18th or 19th. Dreading the bus ride(looked up airline tickets from Atlanta to Dallas, gotta wonder if they realize Southwest offers flights as cheap from Atlanta as greyhound does bus fares?


Of things heading into school, its been almost 4 years since I've even touched a trailer of any kind. I hope backing is like riding a bicycle. The guy who trained me for my CDL test in 2006 told me that the trailers I was backing were a lot harder to back than 53' trailers. I learned on a utility pole trailer, a big knuckeboom fed woodchipper and a flatbed for a backhoe. He always talked about how it was a lot easier to get the small trailers going too far but I'm kinda feeling a bit intimidated because I seen the youtube videos and the one instructor was talking about how if you use the brake the truck will think its under a load and go faster. I really hope that I will be able to pick this up. I feel like if I can pick the basic skills up that I can do good at this job, another exciting part is I've never been able to travel much in my life and when I finally got the opportunity it was always after a tornado outbreak or hurricane messed stuff up bad enough to need help restoring the electric grid.

My only other concern now is I'm a rather large guy, and hoping myself and a trainer will survive 6 weeks.

Can anyone elaborate on FFE's involvement in the oil fields down there in Texas? Are they still letting recent graduates of their program get down there to work?

 

nothing was said to me in my phone interview but I would imagine since its a shift job, they would want you to be rather close to Midland.

 

I'd move to Midland. No problem with me. Just want to be sure that's an option for grads because that's what I really want to do.

 

you can take the truck home if you live 50 or more miles from the terminal --- i know they hire students for the tankers if they live close to midland --- its a boomtown so its going to be hard to find a place you can afford if at all --- i think they want you within 50 miles

 

OKay, the way I have been understanding the truck take home is you live within 100 miles of a terminal and you can take it home.

 

as an otr driver, i live 30 minutes from the slc terminal. but since it is not my home terminal, i drop the trailer at a local drop yard and take my truck home. they don't like it when we drop trlrs at the terminal and i suspect it's the same way for the tractors as there is limited parking. besides, all my crap is in that truck and i would rather have the truck in front of my house where i can keep an eye on it.
