Are you talking about an annual DOT inspection on the tractor, a roadside inspection level 1,2,or 3, or a CDL License exam?

    Per your request,

The DOT annual inspection is to certify that your vehicle meets DOT standards, done once a year. Some companies, however, get them done twice a year to keep them certified.

The Roadside Inspection is when you are driving and go into a scale house and are told to pull around back and bring in your papers. You might also get one if you are stopped for any other reason(speeding, lights out, etc.). They may do any one of those level type inspections with a Level 1 being the most thorough to see if the truck and/or the driver still meets DOT standards.

The CDL License exam is a knowledge based exam you must pass to get your Commercial Driver License and any endorsements you need.

The Physical exam, which is usually referred to as a DOT Physical, is an exam you must pass to stay qualified to keep or acquire your CDL License... which is issued for a 2 year period, unless you have any number of restrictive conditions that would require you to get an Annual Physical Exam (high blood pressure, etc) that need to be waived on a yearly basis.

    Welcome to trucking.

chakat, you sound like you are looking for an answer to a specific medical problem? With hundreds of possibilities it's easier for us to answer a specific problem if you tell us than make a mile long post.

If you want to search it out you can find the DOT medical stuff off of this webpage.

Is it true that beginning next year, DOT physical exam will take your BMI (Body Mass Index-no offense) into consideration? I've seen plenty of truckers and I think a lot of folks will be having problems if its true...myself included :biggrin_25524: Just ANOTHER issue to put extra stress on the industry :biggrin_25516:

As far as I know, no. The threat is there, what with everyone but truckers being asked what's needed to improve safety, etc.

Medical boards recommended mandatory sleep apnea testing for certain BMI but it still isn't an FMCSA requirement . The physical form has always instructed doctors to check for signs of respiratory problems or sleep disorders.
Recommending sleep apnea testing is at the discretion of the doctor.some carrierr's doctors are quick to recommend it.
