Welcome home and thank you for your service first and foremost! I am a fellow service man and understand where you've been. My advice for you is to do as much research as you can on the part of the industry of trucking you wanna go into and ask questions every chance you have whenever you see someone who is doing what you wanna be doing. As far as companies go I think TMC is a good company for you to go into and get some good experience in trucking. I've heard nothing but good things about them and like ex military. As for the type of truck you should get? Well i am a heavy hauler and run a Coronado heavy spec and my loads are over 100k weight. It does the job fine and the manufacturer has been great in their support. Good luck and I wish you the great success in your new career.

Thanks and thank you for your service as well! It seems like all the good former military guys are in the transportation industry these days.......
MNdriver, CAXPT and SublimeJulian Thank this. -
Yeah I believe you're right my friend. I like to be out there in the world and seeing the life beyond my front door. A regular 9 to 5 job isn't for us I believe. We are a different breed of person once we've been in the military and seen the world.
MNdriver Thanks this. -
should start a possible Vet truckers get-together some place in the country sometime.
That'd be fun and see how many trucks show up......I can see a BIG field being needed. -
I cant leave the state, so MN it is!!

I don't think the Stockade would be large enough in Forest City.

Hell, if I believed what most of these drivers told me, I'd be inclined to think the entire special ops community became truck drivers. I'm sure you've seen it yourself... while there is quite a large community of prior service in this industry, there's probably an equivalent number of imposters spinning tales of grandeur about their nonexistent military service, as well as a number of people who may legitimately be vets, but they make themselves out to be more than what they were. The latter category, I find especially baffling in that they should realize that others who have been in the military can normally detect a fishing story within five seconds of the other person opening their mouth, yet people who should be aware of this still keep trying to pass their ######## stories off.

Here's a thought..... Do medium duty trucks hauling open or enclosed gooseneck trailers have to follow the same regulations as say class 8 tractor with 48 or 53ft trailers?

That would be a good idea and probably pretty fun as well... There would have to be a lot of beer and we'd have to brainstorm all of our stories

Medium duty trucks are Class 4 - 6 (GVWR from 14,001 to 26,000 lbs). If you're running a single vehicle or combination vehicle with a GVWR/GCWR in excess of 10,000 lbs. interstate for commercial purposes, you're required to maintain and carry a valid DOT medical card. If the GCWR of truck and trailer exceeds 26,000 lbs., it requires a CDL, and the same regs are in effect.
