I use the 5" Rand McNally and my Rand McNally road atlas. I'm happy with them. I have no opinion on other GPS units.
I do hear a lot of good things about the Cobra. -
Hardrives always run the risk of failing. Unless you need alot of disk space (costs alot more vs hdd) try getting a 'solid state drive'.
-
Well, I pulled the trigger on a Rand McNally intelliroute TND 720. I also added the external antenna to my order (cord that attaches to back of unit that has a magnetic box at the end you can put on top of cab). Hope this unit doesn't have all the probs. the 710 had. It is supposedly more rugged than the 710.
-
Don't be overly optimistic with the 720. I have one as well. There are a few issues. Expected as this is the first run of the 720.

Rand has given you an quick fix to the traffic issue. No sense in beating this to death. If you say there are a few issues then by all means what are they? Anything you have listed in the other thread I have replied to and given you the driver a solution while on the road.
Thanks,

The tough book has a solid state drive. It's the only computer It will take a 6 foot drop out of a cab over.

Alright now that pisses me off buddy boy! I didn't say one #### thing about traffic or anything else now did I. If you are so over sensitive about a device mentioned on a general forum- get help because you seriously need it.
But since you brought it up. Regarding RM's parsing of the navteq tmc data- you are wrong.
Nuff said.

You mentioned Issues - more than one. Navteq data for the traffic list is shown as from Navteq. This was explained before. If you feel it is wrong or is listed wrong I did post a link to Navteq where you could contact them.
Thanks,
Mark -
This is general thread so I have absoutly no compunction in posting this. I set the Garmin 560LMT right next to the 720 and compared traffic reception and reporting. The 720 consistently reported east-west roads as north-south and vice versa where the Garmin got that information correct. In my mind, this points to a problem inside the 720- not as you suggest in covering RM's butt- with Navteq data. I can, if you really want, send you, RM, and whoever else a picture of this next time I am in an area to do this and have the time. At the time I posted this as a minor concern on your thread.
As a matter of fact, I'd be more then happy to email you my thoughts on traffic reception and reporting from a stand point of a radio monitoring enthusiast and not a pnd user.
With all that in mind, my post stands. The 720 is in it's first run as a production device and will no doubt have issues all it's own. For you to automatically attack me on an issue I didn't post here nor mention anywhere except your dedicated thread is just wrong. Points out exactly where your motives truely lie now doesn't.
Now. Not that it matters one #### bit. But the 720 is sitting on my dash at this moment. And, as I also posted on your thread but you havn't mentioned for some reason, I was and am very happy to see some of the changes from the 700/710 to the 720. However, since I have no company allegence to defend, I can post that with a clear conscious.
I am on i70 in Utah. My next cell coverage is Green River.
