I've been thinking about buying an old beater w900a and restoring it in my down time. Basically keep working as a company driver and slowly restoring the truck. I have a full shop at my house with a two post frame lift and paint booth.

I'm trying to get info on if it will cost anything as far as if i need to put plates on it, insurance, or anything like that while its sitting in my yard.

Yes, well let me explain. I live with my dad, he's restored and worked on cars his whole life. On the weekends he works on his projects, he's restoring a 1930's ford limo for an elderly couple. He also has a 1987 silverado that he's wanting to restore soon, he's already built a 383 stroker for it.

He built the shop and spray booth from the ground up. We poured the concrete and everything was built by him. The only thing id have to do to fit the truck in the booth would be to take the stacks off lol.

You don't need insurance on it just sitting in the back yard.

    Alright that's good, thanks.

As far as the heavy highway use tax, would I need to pay that or would I be exempt as long as I can prove that it was sitting for a few years and not being used?

I have had to really explain to the IR and S whenever I have parked a truck for over a year and did not pay the FRUT.They finally accepted a notarized statement.State of Florida can also be a pain with the tag. I would take pictures of the restoration as I went along to document the non-usage. Just be sure the wheels are off of it when the pictures are made, and dates are on the photo.

    Thanks for the info!

Yeah we had our neighbors call the county complaining we had 3 cars in the front yard that have been there for three months. County said we had 30 days to put tags and insurance on them or get rid of them. We put them on blocks and said they were project cars. The officer said he didn't mind that, told the neighbors to uhh....FO. lol.

But our neighbors keep to themselves after complaining several times about us and not getting their way.

I don't live in a housing community or anything, just on a state road in BFE. 4 acres, a lot of woods, a lot of guns, and a bunch of rednecks haha

Anyway, yes, the truck will be on blocks so I can keep the tires and rims in our shed away from the weather.
