As others have pointed out ALL FUEL COMES FROM THE SAME TANKS at the rack. Yes Flyin J has their own Refinery in Utah but thats not the norm.

Hot fuel is the worst thing you can do. Heres the trick. Find a fuel stop that stores their fuel underground. Some places like Loves (Kingman Havasu Yuma Quartzsite and Chandler AZ) store it above ground. Guess what happens when the sun beats down on a black 20,000 gallon fuel tank sitting on an asphalt parking lot in Arizona in the summer time? It was not poor planning on their part, it makes them TONS of money. The Loves in Buckeye and Joseph City store underground.

If you are really serious about getting your moneys worth, go inside and ask them for a Veeder Root, if the fuel temp is above the ambient air temp you will lose volume, I have seen fuel temps at Kinder Morgan in Phoenix at 110 degrees, pull that to Flagstaff where the air is 60 at nite and somebody is getting SKREWED.

denny;s is a huge upgrade from any of the older style ta/petro/flying j restraunts.. the equipment is better, the food is better quality, the service is better, the "system" that they use is superior as far as training and the menu is alot larger, 2-3x as much stuff on the menu. the price is higher, more inline w/ what youll pay at an applebee's, but its worth it, you arent getting 3rd rate dogfood like you used to get...

i would rather eat fast food taco bell or mcdonalds than eat at an oldschool petro restraunt.

as far as fuel, on average if youre comparing fuel from truckstops in the same area they likely got their fuel from the same place, a large depot or refinery. pilot and loves offer lower prices because they have a better business model, not because theyre cheating you on the fuel.

That's funny, because I prefer the old school Iron Skillets to what the J's have become.

I hope that you are joking. Flying J had good food in their restaurants. My exprience with Denny's is that they have a more limited menu than any of those you listed. Prices are higher and portions are smaller. It is a problem getting them to even cook their bacon and it is razor thin. Denny's has the worst tasting coffee of any restaurant that I have experienced. If the occasion does come up where I must eat at one of those Denny's, I get my coffee at Flying J and then go into the restaurant. I would rather skip a meal than give my money to Denny's for their over priced and under cooked food. One of the last times that I did eat at Denny's I got fish. It came with about a spoonful of spinach and a small portion of fish. I am not really a big eater, but I was still hungry after paying them $12+ for my meal. At one time Denny's had good food and coffee. I will now go out of my way to avoid doing business with them. I would rather eat fast food than Denny's. At least with fast food, you don't spend so much money on food that is less than desirable. I would take Petro over any of the truck stops, other than some of the independents that have managed to survive. My next choice is TA. There is little else out there unless you find an independent with a decent restaurant. I have spoken to a number of others who feel the same way as I do about Denny's.

seems like theyre doing pretty good, better than the ta/petro's as far as the number of people coming in and eatting. as far as truck stop dining experiences go, denny's in a love's or fj is about as close to it gets to a normal family city restraunt like chili's, applebee's, etc etc.. as far as food, cleanliness, condition of the restraunt and pricing.

it isnt a fad, all of the loves and fj's are changing to denny's because they know people dont want "truck stop" food, because thats what you get alot of the time when you go to a normal truckstop diner like a ta or petro, 3rd rate prison food.

I know Im still new, but couldnt the mpg drop at least be partially due to now pulling flatbed loads? I do flatbed and dont get that great of mileage, with a 2010 Cascadia and no known problems. Driving is fine according to FM. Our loads are usually not aerodynamic. Just a thought.

I must be stopping at different Flying J's that have Denny's. I have not seen nearly as much traffic since they changed over from the Flying J restaurants. I heard one manager tell me that Denny's wasn't going to renew their lease when it was up. I know at least one Denny's that was in a Pilot that is now a Huddle House. I only stop at Denny's if I am very hungry and there is nothing near where I can get a meal. I don't recall seeing Denny's in any of the Love's. In fact, all I have seen in any of them is fast food, such as Subway.

They're at the Love's locations that were aquired from Flyin' J when the PEELot-FlippinHook merger took place. I had a meal at the Love's in Des Moines the other night. It was almost deserted. The food was adequate - not nearly as good as TA/Petro restaurants.

I always put the fuel in the fuel tanks for best fuel mileage.
