You just don't get it.

The individual driver is NOT being ticketed. The vehicle is being ticketed.

There is nothing on your MVR as a result of it.

Since it is the company's vehicle that is being ticketed, they are the ones to decide how to handle it, not you.

It is in the same classification as a parking ticket. Not a moving violation (at least in Illinois).

 

Big controversy now in Chicago as they are installing speeding cameras near every school in the city of Chicago. There are 648 schools in Chicago.

They are set to ticket you at 6+mph over the posted limit.

I would have much less of an issue with that than relight cameras. Targeted speed enforcement at schools for the safety of kids isn't quite the same as re light cameras at random intersections. While there situations that may cause a driver to be ticketed unfairly with the red light camera, there is never an excuse to speed in a school zone.

 

I just wiped egg all over sioux citiy ia's cameras for a ticket off a malfunctioning machines. I now have to decide if i want to put a peoplenet or other elog in my own truck for protection from these #### things.

 

Maybe you are new to this "driving on paved roads with controlled intersections..."

But if you can not stop for a red, with all the warning of a full yellow preceding it then you are traveling too fast for conditions.

The posted speed limit is what is allowed. IT IS NOT THE MINIMUM REQUIRED!

Apparently you must be new as well.

I have been on roads where the light changes from green with no walk warnings or anything to alert you that it might happen. The yellow light is very short. You are moving in a 40 mph zone and doing 25, stop in 15 feet or less.

Or are you so special.

I have never been ticketed for this.

A little anticipation can go a long way in "some" cases. If I'm rolling in a city block and I see the light ahead has been green the whole time I'm traversing the preceeding block I might expect that it will change soon, therefore I might lift and begin engine braking "if allowed" or begin to slow a bit to allow myself time "hopefully" to stop if needed. Kindof like following distance. Do you follow the veh. ahead of you by one car length and then proclaim you did not have time or could not stop when you rear end them?

That said I'm certainly not "golden" here and have rolled through intersections against the light. But more often than not I try to anticipate and keep my speed at a point where I can stop if need be. I'll be the "Slow Truck" rolling through town. As was said elsewhere the speed linit is NOT the minimum required, and one could say if you cannot safely stop that you were in fact driving too fast for conditions.

And you can't do it all the time. Sometimes there are a lot of indicators. But some intersections are also hardwired to switch if a vehicle comes from a side-street. THOSE are the ones that really suck when they don't give you time to stop.
