For me if I am on a long long trip say going out to Tacoma I will stop for a load check and log 15 minutes but it only taks say 7, I am getting another 7 minutes of drive time so roughly another 5-7 miles. Do that 3 times a day and you can do closer to 700 miles. When your on those long trips out to WA and OR and those ones that little bit helps more then you would think.

Blind, Trust me. Stick with it and just deal with the **** end of the stick for now. I know freight has been rough this week for sure because of the holiday next week being on a Wednesday. I just got home a little bit ago and remember they do everything possible to get me home Friday because I stay out 2 weeks at a time. My money is you will be home for the 4th and then you will be back home next weekend.

Where are you going in MI? It is usually pretty easy to get freight out of MI usually steel heading south or east and its only a little bit over an 11 hour drive down to where your living in NC. Just trust me and stay with it. Once you get a little more time in you will say I'm glad I stayed. I use to have weeks like your having and get home mid day Sat and leave out at my 34 hour mark.

    Hey Jeff,
The next time you are by Lowes or home depot, buy yourself a 12 foot section of electrical conduit. Take it and duct tape a loop of carpet remnant making a "noose" on the end. When you encounter a spool from now forward, just take your conduit and slide it through the middle "eye" of the spool. Attach the hook end of your chain of loop your strap around the "noose" and then pull the conduit through, pulling the chain or strap through the spool "eye." You can store the conduit against the back of your truck, standing it on end.

Yeah, but when Bob bought them, everything before then became known as "Old Melton" and everything after became known as "New Melton". He could have changed the name all together--he did own his own trucking business when he bought Melton--but out of respect for Mr. Melton's family, he decided to keep the name..

That is a good thought, however, it's hard to get sleep when you're waiting for them to pull you in to load, and you can't always stay on the property after you're loaded. But, if by chance you are able to get good rest and are able to finish out your 10, then by all means, do it. :)

Yes, but what he is saying is that if it takes 5 or 7 minutes, you can log 15 minutes off duty...then you get the remaining time as "free" drive time. Sure, that's only 6-8 miles...but if you do this every load check, 4-5 times a day.....that's an hour of extra drive time..

Blind, take a couple of gallon jugs that you have emptied and keep them full of water for just such occassions my freind. You can use it to sponge off in the parking lots. Also I like to use baby wipes to keep fresh.

Im in Benton Harbor, Mi. Ive washed my truck, cut my hair, washed my body, eaten, now Im waiting on the dryer to finish drying my laundry. Id say I made use of my time at the Pilot. I'll finish my drive to the consignee tomorrow.
I just hope it'll be quiet enough, and cool enough to sleep with the windows open. PEACE!!!
