Have to ask a reefer driver. Solos goin to Cali are rare on the reefer side, from what Ive heard. Most reefer loads coming back out are team loads, from what Ive heard. Going reefer first is a good idea. A lot easier pulling a reefer trailer than a flatbed. Ive done both. Did PSD n TNT on the reefer side, then switched over to flatbed after upgrade. You can finish TNT then switch. Its not that hard to switch over if you so choose to.
The training minimums are no longer in winter.

There's plenty of reefer freight in Cali most of the time. There is a lot of team freight... produce that must be moved quickly, but we pull freezer loads as well. Running solo and living in California shouldn't present a problem getting home. We drop the trailer at an agreed upon place, and then you can bobtail to the house. If you want to stay out that way, you might inquire about the western regional division.
We don't go to Hunt's Point or anywhere inside of NYC. Some regional loads go up to Long Island. For me, I dont' really get a whole lot of waiting time... YMMV, some guys seem to. Once you get used to the disjointed life we leave, you can usually use any time waiting in a productive way. Like for a nap... then you can blaze trails when its time to roll.Freezer Burn Thanks this. -
Unfortunatly, Flatbed does go into NYC :'( I really hate NYC.
