Why do you want to pull a tanker, it is a dirty job, and you are aways pulling max weight. But yes you have got it, how ever, I wonder when somone will get it in their head that the mandate thing from the court ended making drivers have electronic logs.

I've never gone OTR,I've always been "local",but more like North east regional (NY,MA,PA,NJ,CT,RI,NH,VT),my first driving job I got hired as a forklift driver (had my CDL),but within 3 months I was driving for them. The loads I ran were trips that can be done in a day in a day cab, about 500-650 miles round trip on average with a lot of long hours, but I was home every night.Currently I'm a "yard switcher" at a retail distribution center,I average about 45 hours a week and make the same money as I was making at my previous job (which made hell look like club med).I do miss going different places every day,but for now I'm ok with what I'm doing. So it is possible to get a driving job with out going OTR for the first year.
