I am a 15 yr Navy vet with a CDL. I don't have a lot OTR but I do have 4 1/2 yrs of LTL. I currently work at a bread factory and make very nice pay for the area with great benefits. However, I hate the job! I need to travel and spice of life. I have been accepted by CRE for the first phase but need a little more info before I commit. What can I expect for an average paycheck and how much home time?

There are way better companies out there than CRE. Do your research on this board and pick someone better. CRE has made a fine art of getting people to driver their trucks for free.

True true ... you only want to go CRE/Swift/Knight...etc if you have never or NOT been driving within the past year, they make it easy to get behind the wheel. And for LTL, I would go with FFE as a choice of start over CRE (dunno much about FFE) but prob a better choice than CRE.

What is it you hate about your current job? Going OTR, you may be getting more of the same squared.

Thank you VERY MUCH for your service!! Onto your situation, I agree with the earlier posts about doing research and checking into UPS, FedEx, or other LTL companies if that interests you. If you would rather go OTR there's other companies that you could possibly get on with. Talk to different recruiters, look in the good/bad companies section of this forum and see what other drivers are saying. Check CSA scores and find the company/situation that you feel would be best for you and your situation.
