Hi my name is Vasile and I am interested in becoming a Landstar Agent. I am a O/O and have my own Sprinter .. Looking to expand and get acces to the load board and my own authority. Have proper insurance! I really need to know what steps I need to take to get access to the board and whether I need my own DOT# or not. Thanks

Landstar is always taking agents, and not just in Orlando, it's nationwide. Typically they want you to already have a book of business or they will deny you an agency, but it seems like lately it's been on a case by case basis. Let me explain to you, if you want to do this, it's not as easy as many truck drivers think it is. You don't just post loads and everyone just clammers all over your freight. It takes months to build accounts with customers and then when you do get loads you have to hit the phones and call people. Sometimes I'll call 20 trucks on a single load before it gets moved. Think this over because like the BCO's you decide your ultimate success and Landstar isn't going to coddle (sp?) you and hold your hand.

Hi, Do not let theses agents fool you. Landstar does not care where you are at. You can be in Alaska and post loads for Florida. All of the loads are thru the load board if they are any good. And you do not have to have a book of shippers , has MOST agents just post loads from other load board's. We Bco's call these agents which is most of the agents here copy and post agents . Has most agents do not have there own shippers.

Virginia Beach area is a high freight area, unlike the long distance brokers a good broker back in the day had clients they knew face to face and built a personal rapport with customers and trucking companies. The brokers had a good understanding of clients needs rather than expectoration of loads on a electronic freight board, short story they knew the shippers and drivers first hand.

We know our customers first hand. They just happen to be large national accounts. And no, JoeH, we're not all cut and paste agents and Landstar does have requirements for new agents. I'm here trying to get him to get experience before just becoming another cut & paste agent. Read all the posts my friend.
