If he gets a 1099 he is a self employed contractor and should ask for a contract. You could say the carrier is leasing the driver .[/QUOTE]
The 1099 does not make someone a contractor. It is the result of being a contractor. The other tests, of the IRS, is what determines contractor/employee status. -

Yeppers, that's it.

i have been down this very road. you better RUN and i mean DO NOT Look back. if you do not pay your taxes quarterly, you will end up owing the IRS over 5000 dollars as was my case last year. RUN!!!

I think the OP made up his mind he was going to take the job even against all the good advice to leave it.
Brickman Thanks this. -
I haven't decided yet, MN. And your advice does not necessarily = correct advice, so please understand that on these forums, your opinion is your opinion, and nothing more or less. You're making me feel as if someone doesn't take your advice, then that person is an idiot. With your attitude, I'd be less inclined to take your advice, and I'm sure others feel the same. Get off my thread.
I may take the job, I may not, but I am still looking at other options in the meantime. -
Oh - and CadillacDude, are that you stupid that you did not put away money for taxes even though you knew you were being paid on a 1099? Did you think you could keep all that money for free without having to pay taxes on it? Every 3 months? LOL!
I swear...even though in my original post I asked three specific questions, which really have already been answered at this point, people still continue to post their responses that were not specific to my question.
Everyone wants to be heard, everyone wants THEIR advice followed, even though some of you don't know you have to actually pay taxes.
Sheesh.
Thanks for all the replies none the less.
Mods can close this thread now. -
Now you're telling the mods what to do . It is yout opinion that the thread should be closed . With your attitude we aren't really interested in your opinion .
The information in threads isn't just for the benefit of the OP . More posts could provide more reasons why others shouldn't make the ignorant decision to work as a 1099 contractor .
Actually anyone reading all this info would no longer be ignorant . After reading this thread deciding to work as an I/C in this situation would be just plain stupid. -
the only stupid thing i did was take that 1099 position. it was take it or sit, so i took it and chose to deal with the other problems later. yeah. so im over that place now and i wont ever look back.
