I'm new and Schneider seemed like a good place for a new person to start and they have an OC in my town so I thought that would work out great. But I hate the fact that Schneider expects you to sweat your butt off in the truck when it is hot out like it is now since they don't have apu's or anything and you can't idle. I know I could never sleep sweating all night and it's so dangerous a person could even die from heat stroke. What are some of the things you Schneider drivers do to stay cool? And is it true that Schneider will fire you if you idle your truck even if it's really hot out? If you even CAN idle it, i also hear the trucks are set up so you can't even idle them anyway.

I think I can understand now why they have trouble keeping drivers. I think I would rather work at Burger King and at least go home every night and be able to sleep instead of sitting in a hot truck with sweat running off me trying to sleep and then be expected to be fresh and alert to get up and drive all day again.

Don't believe for one second you can't idle.

I was a Pumpkin for 4 1/2 years. NEVER hit the summer bonus, because my idle was always between 48 and 55%. My DBL gave me the annual "try to keep it down...just do your best" talk, with a glint in her eye. I never idled if I didn't have to, and there were quarters where my idle was below 2%, and they knew that.

You do what you have to do. They got a problem with that? Tough.

BTW...I left just the end of this past January. Don't know how or if any policies have changed. The DBL you have will also have his or her own way of dealing with the idle issue. Good luck.

    well.

some of the new trucks(like mine) have an idle cooling system on them, which keeps the bunk cool while the truck is not running. I am sitting in Queens, it is 95 out, and I am cool as an ice cube.

You are getting some bad information, you CAN idle your truck, you turn on the cruise while it is idling and the truck will stay running. As far as their idle policy, if it is over, I think 80 or 90 degrees, you can idle all you want and it won't count against you. By count against you I mean for bonus, you have to keep your idle down to a certain percentage to get your bonus.

That being said, I have never heard of a driver being fired for idling to much. It may have happened, but I have never heard of it.

I'm idling now, I rarely have to idle at night, but on a day I'm sweltering the trucking is running until someone says otherwise.

Thanks. It's not as bad as I heard then, can't believe everything you hear of course.

Are all the new trucks gonna start having that idle cooling system? That would be great

I believe they only ordered 400-500 of them with it to test it out, mine is a 2012 and I have seen 2013 that don't have it, so I don't know, they should, they work great.

You can idle 100% if you really wanted to. But then again, that means you'd have 0 miles a week so that won't work obviously.

The only issue you will ever run into is if you are in states that have anti idling laws, such as PA, NJ, any Walmart facility, etc etc. What I would say is screw the law and idle cause I'm not going to boil over some ridiculous law. But then again, you can get fined so tread lightly I guess. You never know if you're at some truckstop, and some Barney Fife trucker calls the cops on you for against the law idling. I suppose that can happen.

I don't know if that's the same thing I have. I have a 2012 columbia and it has some sort of "cooling" system. Seems more like a vent that blows out "mild" air at the same exact speed as the bunk heater. Either way, it's still a sweat fest. Maybe i'll just leave it on all day sometime and see what happens.

Espar heater? Thats just a fan only that will run when the truck is shut off. Have the same in my 2010's. At least til the week of the 15th.

Was told by the JCP DBL that have just gotten rid of their 05+06's. One of the questions I'll have is what are now the oldest trucks. As long as it runs decent and hopefully hasnt been smoked in, I'm good. Of course I sat that NOW!!
