I have a 2013 without any kind of non-idle cooling system. From what I've heard, only a couple hundred trucks came with it because Freightliner screwed up and put them on when schneider didn't order them.

I guess the bean counters rather be penny-wise and dollar foolish. I idled the rig for about eight hours today, using 9+ gallons of go-go juice in this hammer wagon while in mAsschussetts freightless purgatory. I've talked to quite a few other o/o who have the new apu units and they love them. I see as a cost effective move, but who knows what the bean counters reasoning is.

I have an AC on my truck that I run while I have the engine off. This morning, it was 50 degrees inside this truck. IN TEXAS!!!!

But on my old truck (a glider), I idled all last summer. No problems at all.

Nope, wish I did. Main reason why I decided to switch into this 2013 is because I thought all the new ones had it. Turned out I was wrong :biggrin_2554:

Yeah...I passed a brand spanken new truck Monday....no AC..

However, we got 2 new trucks on our account last month, and they have them. Maybe its just dedicated now? Or maybe it depends which OC you call "home"?......heck if I know. But the 2 drivers who got them both has had problems with their AC. I've had mine since March with no problems... I dunno...

Yep, I've got no clue either. I heard it was a mistake by freightliner but if new ones are still coming out of the factory with it then it beats the hell out of me. I'm out of the Portland OC, so maybe I don't get one because Portland doesn't get much hot weather. Wouldn't make much sense though since I spend most my time in Cali. Although it doesn't make much sense that schneider doesn't invest in apu's :biggrin_25522:

Before I was with Schneider, I worked for Butler and we had APUs. Very nice to have...thats for sure. Ran TV all night....fridge....microwave....heat in the winter, AC in the summer.
    1 gallon for 10 hours........compared to 10 gallons for 10 hours...
