I prefer the FMCSA, afterall, they are the ones that wrote and enforce the rules, not the company.

100 Air Miles is an Exemption to making a log. I find the J J Keller air mile log book confusing and have seen drivers fined for showing it as their 'log book' to DOT troopers.

If you stay inside a 100 air mile circle of your shop and get back to the shop and are relieved of duty within 12 consecutive hours and have 10 hours off b/4 starting a new shift you are exempt from having a log.

Your employer has to produce time records proving you don't work over 12 hours [unless you draw a grid log] for 6 months so the DOT can audit the HOS.

The DOT's published guideance says you do not need anything showing the prior 7 days on that one day where you go outside the circle or work over 12 hours.

Just remember to tell the inspector "I'm exempt; I do not have a log book!" this will keep him from misunderstanding your status.

Stick a pin in the map and draw a circle 114.63 statute miles [100 air miles] around it. As long as you stay in that circle and don;t work over 12 hours you are exempt!
