Actually, I didn't. He posted in the 'drivers wanted' section here on TTR and was promptly flamed by the usual crowd for not giving enough information about the job in his post. He's not a technophile, and I'm sure it took him a while to figure out exactly HOW to get his post onto the forum.
I called the phone number that he posted, and after talking with him for a few minutes, I knew that we'd see eye to eye on a lot of issues - first and foremost being the health and profitability of the business itself. He and I are all about earning money efficiently, and the arrangement that we have ensures that both of us benefit from working together in an efficient manner.
Surprisingly, we have had very few differences of opinion, and NO arguments about anything.
SOMEONE said it couldn't be done...

Take a look at the Wegman's story. Their growth and success is based largely on the happiness of their employees. P/L and accounting driven management structures are a big reason that the economy has become what it is today.

So um you have a record in safety or are you just useing this as a example, cuz any safety supervisor would have done a pretrip on the preloaded trailer becuse as we all know ASSUMEing makes for bad practice and caught the cracked frame. For me I want the guy who is going to do the whole job all the time not just when they see fit.MNdriver Thanks this.

So you're telling me that if you swap trailers with another driver, you do a complete and thorough inspection of the frame, undercarriage, brakes, tire pressures, etc? I call BS on that, driver. -
Yup, that's what you do windsmith. If you just latch and go, you have no idea what kind of problems you're pulling - at least until DOT pulls you over for a level I, or you kill someone with your negligence. Sure you would. It takes 10 minutes or less. Aside from the safety aspect, which is important, it's also a matter of CYA with your company. If there is damage to that trailer and you don't catch it, but you're that last guy that pulled it when the company finds it then you are the one that damaged it, no matter if you say otherwise. But if it is recorded and reported then you are in the clear. Not taking 10 minutes to do your job (which is way more than driving the truck), is the sign of a poor employee.

Swapping with another driver is the best time to do a thorough inspection. Just in the last two weeks I've been given a trailer that had a completely flat tire barely holding the bead and a trailer where the ride valve and check valve were shot leaving the crossmembers rubbing against the tires. How you don't realize the trailer is rubbing the tires is beyond me. Oh yeah, forgot about the one that had a brake chamber hanging by the rod, mount broke off the axle. Don't think that because a trailer just went down the road on it's way to you that it went down the road safely.

It is? Because I could have sworn that most experts agree the sub-prime mortgage crisis is one of the biggest reasons we have the economy we have today. And while I've heard a bunch of different theories for the cause put forth by a long list of experts with years of experience in the financial sector, I've never heard a single one of them cite P/L and accounting driven management structures as a root cause. Thank god you're here to set the record straight.
And while we're on the subject and since you're obviously so well versed, allow me to pick your brain for a little free investment advice. I'm thinking of picking up some October Facebook puts at 20 or so. Good deal or should I hold off?
