500 HP, what engine D13? I'd advice you not to have top power version of D13. The problem is that this kind of engines has too hot exaust, becouse no reason to limit exaust temperature on DEF engines (anyway zero NOx). But if you run this engine constantly at full output exaust valves life is limited and I wanna remind you that D13 is rear end geartrain and it not easy to remove install cyl head on cabovers and really difficult on conventionals. To acess rear end of engine mechnics have to remove hatch and work on it from cab (in greezy jeans, LOL).
Imo, 465 ore 480 HP rating is better.
New Cummins ISX XPI is better for 500-650 HP FH and VN trucks, but... XPI is too suffisticated system for us -
man, my advice 465 HP and if you wanna auto ATO2612 I-shift, this is the best I-shift offered by Volvo, really durable

I have a friend with 3 of these 2 2010 and one 2013. And he has almost no issues. One has had a problem with a sensor, and I don't remember which one, it took them 3 times before they figured out it was the harness... Now it runs llike a raped ape and gets 8+mpg!! Bring that on anytime!!!!!!! My truck struggles to get 6 mpg. At that rate I'll save the payment in fuel... I will say the auto will be a big adjustment hopefully I can get use to it and like it. He says no issues I'll love it, time will tell.

Not knocking Volvo specifically, BUT what is the bleepin' engineering issue with wiring harnesses across these mfg's? I think I have read about wiring issues on most every truck built within the last 7-8 years. They want $125,000-$150,000 for a new one w/muffler fluid & cannot wire the #### thing? Seriously?
Sorry, just my rant for the morning. Talked to a guy a few days ago who bought Kenworths for the last 20 years. Runs 6-7 trucks & now is running 2 Prostars, 2 or 3 from KW & 2 Volvos. Going to stop by their place later this week. Could be interesting to see what they have learned from their experiment.
Hope all goes well with your new truck.Last edited: Jul 7, 2012
Elroythekid Thanks this. -
the best wiring is Daimler wiring. Volvo, MAN, Paccar wires are thiner and weaker. It is the problem

Freightliner wiring is garbage. I had a cascadia had the engine harness done twice and needed a Sam can harness which they wouldn't do under warranty they drug their feet till the warranty expired then told me it was on me.
