After seeing petes thread and exact numbers its a easy decision to join. Defiantly a great place to work!
BTW, you don't have to wait a year... Three months OTR with driving school and you can join and go through the refresher/restart course. -
what is refresher course.also will be living in elwood indiana is this a location they hire from.
-
Reactive/refresher - I just copied from the website....
Who's eligible:
- OTR drivers who've been off the road for 1+ year
- Recently discharged military with valid Class A CDL
Phase 1 - Trainee (Weeks 1 - 3)
- Classroom refresher course: electronic logs, safety, company policies and specifics on our trucks
- Driving: 2,100 to 4,000 miles with a trainer to coach you along the way
Phase 2 - Company Driver (Week 3 or 4)
- Assigned your own company truck
- 60-day probationary period
- Move to 35 cents per mile with Haz-Mat endorsement
- Pay for performance pay model: be rewarded for performance based on items you control- utilization, service, fuel compliance, fuel efficiency and safety
- Make up to 45 cents per mile within 9 months
Phase 3 - Independent Contractor (Weeks 12+) Beyond
- Assist you in becoming a Lease Operator
- Set you up in your own truck via Excel Leasing & Sales
- Own your truck in approximately 24-36 months
- Get advanced business training at EXCEL Business Institute
- Contractors with Haz-Mat Endorsement make .98 (CPM) on all loaded miles
Pretty much what that says (some info is outdated a bit on there), is that you do the course with a trainer (up to two weeks), then you go company with your own truck for 60 days at $.30. After that you go to $.35cpm and after 90 days you can lease a truck if you want or you can stay company and go up on the pay scale up to $.45cpm within the first year. -
might still wait year alas i am super poor right now went from middle class to lower class in 2 years. will be hooking on with pam first and will have a 1 year contract with them, what i am trying to do is get a job anywhere and save up enough to goto outside school so wont be contracted. live in cleveland now but will be moving in with brother in elwood. no family obligations son moved to new york and is engaged him and brother all family left. that is why think will do otr no outside ties well short of grown up son)

If you can, try and stay away from contracts (school)... go to a community college - from what I've seen, $200-600 is the usual cost for cdl training and most of the time its at least 200-300+ hours. Then you can just sign on with whoever you want (still low paying) but at least you can leave at any time.RUFF Thanks this. -
If you do go to a trucking company for school go to Prime they pay the best for training and hopefully you get a good trainer finish your training and go company till your year obligation is up ( DO NOT DO THEIR LEASE unless you plan on becoming a trainer yourself and want to run team forever)
Otherwise Schneider has a good school also.
Just my opinion -
Schneider started doing school again?
I went to SNI right out of school (private) and it was a great starting company... but they didn't stopped offering school at the time. -
Been with act as a l/p for two weeks now and still love it. Any questions or concerns just ask, unlike most mega companies that give a run around, ACT is more than happy to answer your questions. The runs I've had I always had plenty of time to make it on time. Miles are still good and I'm rollin
BlackLions Thanks this.
