Don't worry about it too much. I think it's normal to be nervous about this new chapter in your life. I was also nervous when I first went OTR, and have been out here since January 2011. I enjoy it. Best of luck to you and to reiterate be safe and legal.

Once again everyone thank you so much. I'm about to get off here, and go to bed. I will keep everyone up to date day by day (if that's okay with the forum) to let everyone know how it's going.
TRKRSHONEY and Ralph4159 Thank this. -
Good luck in your new adventure. Just like everyone else is saying, try not to worry or over think your decision. The only thing that will do is put more pressure on yourself, and you need to be relaxed for your physical. Once you pass that, any questions that you may have, don't be afraid to ask your teacher or trainer, whatever the case may be. Who knows, you may get out here and find out that traveling around this country is a pretty good gig.
Anyway, stay safe and we will see you out here on the road. -
Good luck to you. I got into this racket nearly 6-years ago. After school I intentionally signed on with a local company to minimize bunking with some strange truck driver. I think, I spent a total of 5 nights in the truck, and those were 10-hour to the minute breaks. No way could I have spent 4 or 6 weeks living in a truck with someone - even my wife LOL!

Be a man, stop being a boy and man up grab your nuts adjust them and go out their with confidence because if you dont these truck drivers will eat you alive, dont let anyone give you any crap over being a rookie
Ranger70 Thanks this. -
We're all a rook at some point. I'm starting to calm down, but I don't think I'll be completely calm for a while.

JestCat, Try to relax, take it easy, you still have a long way to go. Keep moving forward and stay positive. It will get tough at times but keep going, don't become one of those stats . Beat the odds. We all were new to this at one time, you will take some crap about be a rookie, thats ok, just don't waste your time listening to the jerk offs that will hammer your butt about being a rookie, you will figure them out real quick. Good luck and keep us posted.
JestCat Thanks this. -
Relax and don't stess out over the unknown. My first trip out was from NC to Yakima Washington. Not the friendliest road for a rookie. At the end of the trip I was asking myself why would anyone want to drive a truck for a living. 14 years later, there's still something new to see around the bend. You will have good days, bad days, meet some good drivers and some bad ones, but you will know early on if this is right for you. Best of luck to you and be safe out there.

Getting crap as a rookie is part of the initiation. The key is to not let it bother you. No one else is driving that truck but you. Don't worry about what people in cars are thinking about you, because they aren't thinking about you at all...but instead the big box in front of them. Other truck drivers will simply adjust until they get around you. And keep your cb off unless you are parking. Best way to ignore the jokesters.
