12 Items or less express lanes at WALMART:yes2557:

A lot of outside carriers pulling WALMART trailers all over North America , they are just getting TOO big to handle it all themselves.

Been like that for a few years , heres pictures to prove it http://hankstruckforum.com/htforum/index.php?topic=25279.0

I haven't heard anything but just look at the DC's. More and more are all contract carriers Schneider, US Xpress, JB Hunt, Swift and now the one that had the Tyson account before KLLM.

Its really simple guys, the outside carriers are being brought in to handle our multi stop dry grocery and perishible freight. This leaves the general merchandise and other drop and hook work for the private fleet drivers. We are currently buying new tractors and trailers as fast as they can get them assembled,is that what you would expect to see from a company that is cutting back on private fleet operations?

Its my opinion as well as others in the private fleet that we should limit our outside carrier contracting to the perishibles and as a last resort to cover store loads during peak periods. Most of us have no problem with the multi stop dry grocery or multi stop general merchandise loads. We are not required to touch any freight and we get generous compensation at each stop. In some regions the big money is made by getting as much activity as you can while your 14 hour clock is running. Of course the majority of our work is drop and hook but sometimes having the choice of a little variety is nice.

Here is the problem with outside carriers. Its a proven fact that outside carriers are a huge liability to not only Walmarts image but to many of the other large retailers that allow outside carriers to pull company trailers. When you have drivers with very little experience or those regardless of thier experience that exibit a complete lack of professionalism you have the potential for damage to your company brand.

Often times when a case of unprofessional conduct occurs out on the road all that is noticed is the trailer and our company name. Its rare to find people that know the difference between having a Walmart private fleet tractor or an outside carriers tractor attached to that rolling billboard that just did something that was dangerous, unsafe or just plain rude. Are there Walmart private fleet drivers out there that act in an unprofessional manner,of course but its very rare.

If you hear questionable information being spread around and you would like to know the truth just ask one of us,contrary to popular belief private fleet drivers are approachable and in most cases more than happy to give you the right information. Please dont ask about our pay,its not that its such a big secret its more that until you understand the way it works its only going to confuse you. Its a safe bet your going to be making much more than you do now.

Whats a CB? I seem to remember about a decade ago there was a thing that drivers used to try and communicate with other divers. If memory serves me right most of what came out of the speaker was drivers annoying each other with profanity laced trash talk, less than reliable information and "good buddy" beeps. Its 2012 driver,in my cab I have a state of the art second to none navigation and communication system,an ipad, laptop, satellite radio and a cell phone. What do I need CB for?

Speaking only for myself I use lights on a case by case basis. If your coming around me on a two lane road your always going to get lights. If were out on the big road and you want to cut into my safe zone your on your own. Professional operators get professional treatment.

One thing I try and never do is paint with a broad brush when I refer to groups of people. If you got the idea I think every driver that hauls our freight is unprofessional and a danger to my companies image you missed the point.
