local work or line hauling in florida?

Well what are you going to drag behind you as far a trailer type? Are you looking for a company driver job or Owner Operator?

Most megga carriers are a little funky about where you live and draw inadvisable lines for hiring.

 

I'm moving to FL next month. Advertised jobs down there don't seem to pay as much as the northern and western states, but that could just be my perspective. Most places also want 6-24 months exp, but that's always gonna be a rookies battle anywhere.

 

Keep in mind the cost of living is less and no state tax taken out for payroll taxes, depending on where you do live the cost of living maybe half of what it cost you now.

 

depends what company you work for. If its like YRC or ABF then go line haul as you will be sitting in a nice air conditioned truck all day/night, where as some ltl carriers you will have to work on a hot dock all night while on line haul once you get to the hub

 

Just noticed you have New Jersey as your location, it will be less expensive down in Florida for sure. Forget the yearly property tax on your personal vehicles and land tax here is very low unless you move into one of the major metro areas. No vehicle emissions or yearly inspections.

 

florida sucks. brush up on your spanish. that is all. linehaul would be so easy there, no mountains, big wide roads..

 

South Florida jobs don't pay much thanks to a steady supply of immigrants willing to work for next to nothing.

I don't know why someone said cost of living is lower. It's much lower in other states. We will be moving to Georgia as soon as we can sell our house without losing money.

 

I live in Tampa and it is way far lower cost of living from Northern Virginia, that in comparison to Florida cost is night and day. My vehicle property taxes saved and all the other taxes is well over 15k per year. While I am sure Florida can be expensive in some areas I love it and will stay, they can have all the tax you to death places up north. I like the sunshine state myself.
